Presently our funds come from donations, applying for grants and fundraisers. The Humane Society has private, non-profit tax status and is in the process of applying for grants to help with its work. Another way the public can help the Humane Society is to volunteer to feed animals at our building, or work on a committee.
The long term goal for us is that Pocahontas Co. will one day have a brand new animal shelter.
Since our society relies heavily on donations,we suggest that if you are interested in donating you can donate in memory of a person or a pet. Donations can be in memory or in honor of your current, special pet also. All donations are tax deductible. So please help the needy and homeless!
Who We Are
Since its founding in 1998, the Humane Society of Pocahontas County has been instrumental in spaying and neutering hundreds of pets and strays and arranging adoptions of many animals. Our rescue efforts have saved hundreds of abused and neglected cats and dogs, plus some horses and other farm animals.
We are committed to a future where unwanted animals in the county will be cared for in a modern facility.
Adopting a friend
Several kind people are providing temporary foster care for a number of animals. If you have room in your life for a cat or a dog please call to find out what animals are available for adoption.

Come Visit Us!
Our office is at 410 Second Avenue in Marlinton, and we have several cats for adoption there.
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
