THE ROLE OF THE MARION COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY
To provide a safe and humane sheltering facility to house and care for animals.
To assure proper placement of homeless animals by adoption or by use of qualified rescue groups.
To promote spay/neutering and responsible pet ownership.
Most of our animals come from a bad past which may include abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment. This is why we are so particular about who our animals go home with. If you would like to adopt a companion animal, one that will be part of your family, please come and visit us.
HOURS
Monday-Saturday 10:30-5:00, Sunday 1-4.
ADOPTION PRICES
Cat/kitten $35.00 Spayed/neutered cat/kitten $50.00 Dog/puppy $40.00 Spayed/neutered dog/puppy $70.00 Pure Bred dog/puppy $100.00
ADOPTION PROCEDURE
If you are interested in adopting a pet, come and meet the animals. Decide which animal may be right for your family, then fill out a pre-adoption application. (All questions must be answered before we will consider you.) A shelter employee will contact you to schedule a home visit. After the home visit and a review of your application, you will be contacted by a shelter employee within 24 hours. If the animal is 5 months of age or older, it will need to be altered before leaving the shelter. A vet appointment will be made. Your next step will be to come in and fill out the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Your new pet will be delivered to the vet on the day of the appointment. Out of state residents will also need a home visit which will be set up as soon as possible.
PROCEDURE FOR LEAVING AN ANIMAL AT THE SHELTER FOR ADOPTION
Persons dropping a pet at the shelter must pay a surrender fee of $30.00 and show proof of shots. Persons dropping off a litter with no shots will be required to pay $30.00 for the first pet in the litter and then $5.00 for each of the remaining pets in the litter.
WE ARE NO LONGER ANIMAL CONTROL and are not funded by the city or county. For us to continue helping the animals in our county we need volunteers, donations, and support from the community. If you feel that you could help our shelter in any way, please feel free to call.
