Adoption Information

Anyone interested in adopting a dog from ARF's should start out by filling out an application. Every successful adoption starts here! ARF's will contact you and let you know the status of your application and keep you informed every step of the way. We try to match you with the ARF's dog who best suits your lifestyle. If AGSR doesn't have the type of shepherd you want. we contact other reputable German Shepherd Rescues we work with, to see if they can meet your request. Our goal is to make the best match possible, for the dog and you! We want this to be a lifelong commitment! To view the necessary documents online or to download them, go to Applications

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ADOPTION?

HOW MUCH DO THESE DOGS COST AGSR?

Buying the unconditional love only a rescue dog can give is priceless, but in general, the cost to rescue one German Shepherd breaks down as follows:

$50.00 Adoption fee paid to shelter and/or mileage to acquire dog
$150.00 Spay/Neuter
$25.00 Rabies shot
$15.00 DHLPP booster shot
$20.00 De-worming
$20.00 Parasite treatment (if needed)
$05.00 Biospot (flea/tick preventative, cost per month)
$35.00 Heartworm test
$05.00 Heartworm preventative (cost per month)
$40.00 Microchip, for ID purposes
$35.00 QUALITY Dry dog food, per dog (cost per month)
$15.00 Miscellaneous ( treats, collar, etc.)
$75.00 Obedience training, per course
TOTAL COST
$390.00

Some dogs come to us already spayed/neutered, and some shelters include the price of shots or heartworm preventative, or they waive the adoption fee for rescue. But, usually AGSR dogs require more vetting because they are not up to date on shots or altered, etc; these dogs quickly deplete our resources and we routinely dig into our own pockets to help out. Puppies also cost more than the above breakdown, due to the extra shots they need.

If we haven't already mentioned it, AGSR is a 501c3 non-profit organization and your donation is always put to good use. :)
You can also visit our on line store, all profits go directly to rescue or AAFMED. AAFMED is our way of helping out other GSD rescues with their medically challenged dogs!

All dogs are temperament tested prior to ARF's accepting them. We start basic obdedience while they are in foster care, but you will need to follow up with an obedience class (or two) on your own. It is the best way to insure that you get off on the right foot with your canine companion. Only dogs that pass the temperament test are offered for adoption. What we know about the dog, or discover in foster care, is passed on to you so you'll be able to judge whether or not the GSD you are looking at will be a good fit for you. We cannot warrant the health or temperament of any animal, but what we know about the dog, you'll know about the dog. We do the basics for health care (shots, altering, heartworm check and preventative just to name a few), but we do not xray hips unless we suspect there is an issue; as it is very expensive. We do encourage you to take your new dog to the vet within 3 days of the date of adoption. Still think that puppy from the Pet Store looks like a good deal? We didn't think you would! Welcome to rescue.
