We are consistently taking dogs into foster care and they may not be on our website at the time you visit. Our dogs are in foster homes for a minimum of 3 weeks before they are put up on Petfinder so be sure to email us if you are looking for a specific dog.

Who We Are
Badgerland German Shepherd Rescue (BGSR) is an incorporated group of individuals volunteering their time, money, love and efforts to rescue German Shepherd Dogs, whether or not purebred, who have been abandoned, surrendered to animal shelters/humane societies or surrendered to BGSR by their guardian. We primarily serve Wisconsin and Northern Illinois but will consider longer distance adoptions. Costs associated with long distance placements are the adopters responsibility.
General Rescue Information: All rescued German Shepherd Dogs are taken to a veterinarian to be treated for any obvious medical condition, brought current on all shots, and spayed or neutered. Our rescued German Shepherd Dogs come in all ages, colors, sizes and personalities.
Potential new homes are thoroughly pre-screened. Potential adopters must be willing to bring a German Shepherd Dog into their home as a family member. Potential adopters must be prepared to provide proper food and clean water, vaccinations and any other medical expenses, daily exercise, and most of all, lots of love.
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and rely solely on donations from caring individuals. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Please consult your tax advisor.
Adopting a friend
BGSR makes every effort to place dogs in the most compatible home possible, therefore, adoptions are not done on a first come first serve basis. BGSR requires all applicants to complete an Adoption Application which is available online on our website: www.bgsr.org Based on the information provided on your application, we will try to make the best match for your lifestyle and family. After the adoption application is processed a home check is scheduled to ensure that the potential new home is appropriate for the dog. Meet n' greets are then arranged. All household members, human and canine, are required to participate. All of our dogs are up to date on vaccinations, Heartworm negative and on preventative, spayed or neutered, and microchipped.
