Who We Are
The Humane Society of Douglas County (HSDC) was founded in July of 1975 in Superior, Wisconsin. The purpose of this society is the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals, and the extension of humane education. It is the policy of this Humane Society to provide humane care and treatment for all animals needing protection in the area served by the society. To seek to return lost animals to their owners, to seek suitable homes for animals without owners. To provide humane euthanasia when necessary.
We rely on donations, memberships, adoptions, and fund raisers to keep our doors open to the homeless animals of our area. Donations are welcomed and are tax deductible as we are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donations can be sent by mail to HSDC, P.O. Box 891, Superior, WI 54880, or by credit card on our web site or by sponsoring one of our animals on Petfinder.com.
Our memberships are annual at $5 for juniors under 18, $10.50 for a single adult with vote, $20 for family membership- 2 adults voting, and a single life membership is $150. A Non-voting Business Membership is $35. Membership applications can be requested from or sent to: Humane Society of Douglas County, Inc., PO Box 891, Superior, Wisconsin 54880-0891.
As of May 1, 2014, our hours have changed as follows: Our adoption center located at 3302 S. Humane Society Road, South Range, WI, is operated 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.**Phone 715-398-6784. Our City shelter located at 2225 Hill Avenue, Superior, WI, is open for City of Superior strays and reclaims 7 days a week from 7-10 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. **Phone 715-394-7387. Both centers are closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Adopting a friend
All animals are already spayed or neutered, dewormed, have at least their first distemper vaccination, a rabies vaccination, dogs are vet checked and have a bordatella vaccination, and cats are FeLV/FIV tested negative.
