WE NEED FOSTER HOMES FOR CATS AND KITTENS!!!!!
Dakota
We have so many great kitties and puppies! Can't decide who might be right for you? Make an appointment to hang out in Harold's House for Cats or our dog yard! You can see who you like and who likes you!!! You don't have to wait, we take same day appointments!
A special thank you to Ms. White's first grade class at Sacred Heart School in L'Anse, Michigan!! They donated the proceeds of their second Snack Attack fundraiser to Catkins and helped up get Calvin neutered, vaccinated and heart work tested!! Calvin and everyone else at Catkins can't thank you all enough!!
Wanna help? We need foster families! We have kittens that need socialization, cats that need love and dogs that want to play! Even if you can only take an animal in for a week or two, it can make all the difference in the world to that animal! We also have a long list of pets waiting to get into our rescue. The dog or cat you would like to foster might not be on our site, but contact us and we'll check our waiting list! The more foster homes we have- the more animals we can help!!
You know you want to foster a kitten!!
Our Featured Pet...
Calvin and Dakota!!!!
So you've been looking for the perfect pair of dogs, but you're worried that it can be tricky introducing two dogs to a new household when they don't know each other. Well, it gets a lot easier when they are BEST FRIENDS!!! Calvin and Dakota can't wait to get outside and play in the morning!! They are constant companions!! These two both have the energy to be wonderful exercising companions, but they also know how to relax at the end of the day. Of course, if you want to relax and they want to play- they have each other for company!! Both of these dogs are fixed, completely UTD on shots, heartworm negative and on flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative. Neither dog has ever had an accident in their kennel and both are friendly with every dog they meet!! Calvin does well with cats, but Dakota is a little too excitable for them. Both dogs love to run, but Dakota needs to be kept on a leash or in a fenced yard because she will only come back when she is tired! Dakota has had a complete DNA analysis done, so if you'd like to know more visit her profile page!!!

Owner Surrenders
ATTENTION: Owner Surrenders!! Before surrendering your pet please think long and hard about what you are doing and why you are doing it. We are one of the VERY few organizations in the area that will take in owner surrender pets and we have very limited space. If you are moving: do not call us the day before your move and expect that we will be able to help. We will be happy to try and help your pet, but we need time to do it in. We have an owner surrender form and fee. We will not take same day owners surrenders because we need time to verify with your veterinarian and local law enforcement that your pet has not attacked a person or another animal. Please understand our owner surrender fee is $50 for each pet. Why? We are committing to caring for your pet for the rest of its life- all the food it can eat and all the veterinary care it deserves. Our owner surrender fee only covers the cost of a basic veterinary exam and a bag of food. We are ALWAYS willing to post courtesy listings for pets that need to be rehomed, but we need pictures of your pet and information about your pet to help us find the best home possible.
Why we take in owner surrenders: "How Could You?"
Please Note: We are the only rescue in three counties that takes in owner surrenders, we also take in strays and animals running out of time. We are the only organization in Price county that actively seeks to rehome cats. When you adopted or purchased your pet, you made commitment to that animals to make it a member of your family. Your pet is your responsibility, not ours, so do not be angry if we do not immediately have room to help with your situation. We understand that there are some hardships families go through that make it nearly impossible to keep a pet and we are here to help. If you adopted an animal from us and it is not working out, we do not charge an owner surrender fee and we require that the animal comes back to us (that's part of the contract you signed), and you likely have already contacted us and aren't reading this. If you adopted an animal from another organization, you likely signed an adoption contract with them and need to return the animal to them, the same thing applies to animals purchased from "responsible" breeders. If you bring that animal to another organization or try and give it away, you are in breach of contract.
We are not trying to discourage you from contacting us about your pet, but please think about your decision first and know that lots of other people within a four hour drive are doing the same thing. Also, we ask all owners contacting us to be open to behavior modification suggestions. If your cat is urinating inappropriately, you need to take it to the vet and have a urinalysis done. If your dog is chewing up your house, it needs obedience training. It is amazing what an impact a few small changes can have on the relationship you have with your pet. We are always happy to be a resource before we have to be a solution.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
News
Why we charge the adoption fees we do and why we strongly discourage "free to good home" ads (always ask for a rehoming fee): FREE TO GOOD HOME
****We do take in owner surrender pets when we have the space. There is a surrender fee per animal and we ask that all vet records accompany the animal. We will also ALWAYS gladly post a courtesy listing if you email us a picture and some information regarding your pet.
We are looking for farm homes for some of our cats. Maybe you don't want a friendly cat and just need a mouser to hang out in the barn. We get lots of calls about feral cats that people want humanely trapped. We sterilized the cats and then try to find outdoor homes for them- where they can be happy and still make people happy. There is no adoption fee for these cats, so if you think that you might like to make a feral cat your farm cat please contact us!!
We are looking for foster families!! The more of our animals that go into foster homes, the more animals we can take in. We feel that being in a foster home provides critical experience to the animal and crucial information to us. The more we can learn about an individual animal, the more we can tell potential adopters. The pets themselves learn how to interact in a home environment and seem to have a less stressful introduction to a new home than a pet that has been caged. If you are interested in providing a foster home for any of our animals please email us you contact information, and we will be sure to send you the necessary paperwork. From there we would like to meet you, and then our animals would like to meet you! We cover all the medical costs and food costs (but any food you can provide for your foster pet is an additional gift to the animals). Thanks to everyone who has helped and currently is helping us!!!
Who We Are
We are completely volunteer run! All the money from adoption fees goes right back to the animals! When an animal needs more help than the rescue has money- the volunteers step in with their own funds! We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax deductible!!
We are a small rescue group that has been rescuing cats in the Ashland area for over two years. We have recently moved most of our pets to the Park Falls area and added many wonderful local foster families. We have taken cats that have behavior problems, cats that would have been otherwise shot, cats with FIV/FeLV and cats that there is otherwise no room for. The cats that had behavior problems were worked with for an extended period of time before they were adopted into loving homes, cats with FIV/FeLV were given extensive medical care before they were adopted into wonderful new homes and cats that would otherwise have met their end were (and continue to be) given lots of the TLC they deserve! Since starting our cat rescue, we have expanded to rescuing all breeds of dogs as well. We do not euthanize any of our animals and we only take in animals based on space availability. So the faster our pets are able to find homes, the more we can take in! What's different about us? Our cats are not kept in cages. The cats have a small indoor/outdoor house that is air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. The cats that need to be quarantined due to health issues have their own private quarters, and the rest of the cats either hang out in "Harold's Hideout" or are allowed to mingle with the personal pets of their foster families, whether they be dogs or cats. We find this allows us to know our cats best. We are able to judge what kind of home they would do best in and if they have any special needs. We have also begun helping overcrowded shelters by taking in dogs and cats that would otherwise have run out of time. If you have any questions or comments about our organization or adopting a new family member, please feel free to contact us anytime!!

Adopting a friend
***ALL OF OUR ADOPTED PETS MUST BE STERILIZED! WE EXIST BECAUSE THERE ARE ALREADY TOO MANY HOMELESS PETS AND OUR ADOPTEES WANT TO HELP THEIR RESCUED FRIENDS BY NOT CONTRIBUTING TO PET OVERPOPULATION. WE WILL FOLLOW UP ON ALL STERILIZATION SURGERIES AND OUR PUREBRED ANIMALS WILL NOT GO HOME UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN FIXED. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING! WE EAGERLY AWAIT THE DAY WHEN OUR ORGANIZATION WILL NOT BE NECESSARY.****
We ask that everyone looking to adopt one of our pets please call or email us anytime to make an appointment- if you don't get us leave a message! We can normally return calls the same day! We always have 10-15 kitties in Harold's Hideout all you have to do is walk in, sit down and see who you like and who likes you! The number of dogs we can care for varies depending on the number of foster homes available. If you are interested in a specific animal, please let us know and we will make sure that they are here to meet you! We have an adoption application and contract that we ask all adoptive families to please fill out and sign. We are committed to providing the best medical care possible for our animals (Thank You Country Care Pet Hospital!). Our cats are tested for FeLV/FIV and given all of their distemper shots, dewormed and given their rabies vaccination before they go home. All male cats are also neutered, unless there are extenuating circumstances. We can't spay all of our female cats, and so we ask all of our adopters to sign a sterilization contract that designates a time by which your new family member will be fixed and explains that we will (and do!) call to make sure the surgery has been done. Some very young kittens can't be given rabies vaccines at their age.
Our adoption fees are as follows:
kittens that have been given all their distemper vaccines and dewormed and tested for FeLV: $55
cats that have been dewormed, given all their distemper and rabies, and have been tested for FeLV: $75
cats that have been dewormed, given their all their distemper and rabies, have been tested for FeLV AND have been sterilized (all males will be sterilized before they go to new homes): $100
All dogs that are UTD on shots (rabies and distemper), dewormed and sterilized: $200
All dogs that are UTD on shots (rabies and distemper) and have been dewormed, but are not fixed have an adoption fee of $100. Since these dogs are not sterilized we discount the regular adoption fee ($200) to help the adoptive family pay for the sterilization surgery.
WE FOLLOW UP TO MAKE SURE ALL SURGERIES ARE DONE.
We love to see our pets go home in pairs! If you are interested in adopting two of our cats or dogs together (or a cat and a dog), we take 15% off the adoption price of each cat to help you with the responsibilities of expanding your family.
We aren't able to vaccinate all of our cats against FeLV/FIV, but we highly recommend it if you have multiple cats, or if your kitty will be spending ANY time outside.
Come Visit Us!
Since we are a rescue, we do not have regular hours. We can schedule adoption visits almost anytime and anyday. Please contact us if you would like to schedule a time to meet one of our pets!
