The W.C.A.H.S. was established in March 1994 by four women from
Minong, Shell Lake, and Gordon who were motivated by a desire to help stray, abandoned and
unwanted pets and who saw the need for changes in the animal control procedures in the
area.
W.C.A.H.S. is operated by a small staff, and many volunteers. The majority of time and monies are donated by
concerned people who wish to help or pay for the feeding, care and medical needs of the animals.
Adopting a friend
Adoptors must fill out an application for adoption. All pets must be altered before adoption unless they are too young. If they are puppies or kittens, adoptor must agree to have the animal altered as soon as it becomes old enough.
Since our first responibility is to the the animals in our care, we request that you agree to the following:
I am acquiring a companion to love and enjoy. It is a privilege
to have a pet
I have a responsibility to care for my pet during it's life
expectancy.
I am not impulsively obtaining a pet. I have considered how it
will change my lifestyle. I know my responsibility in regard to food, water, housing,
medical care, training and expense. I will not abandon my pet.
If I cannot properly care for my pet, I will return it to The Washburn County Area Humane Society for placement.
I will act responsibly and in the best interest of my friend.
