Who We Are

Carrying forward the legacy of Carl W. Nelson , the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter is a newly organized group of individuals with a big dream for a modern, state-of-the-art, no-kill animal shelter for Juneau County's homeless animals. We are a non-profit organization with a mission to help homeless animals through our shelter and through community outreach programs. We are in the start up phase for our shelter. We are holding fund raisers, acquiring land, building our membership base, planning our future facility, and developing educational programs. If you would like to be a part of our group, visit our volunteer page and our membership page . WE NEED YOU!

OUR PROGRAMS

OUR FOSTER HOME PROGRAM

The Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter operates a foster program to give certain animals extra time to find their forever family. Many of the animals have had a rough time, and need time to learn to trust and enjoy human company again. Some need to heal from injuries or illnesses. Some just need a break from shelter life. Foster homes give the time, affection, and shelter to let these dogs and cats recover and find loving homes.

OUR ELDERLY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Every year many elderly people in Juneau County are forced to give up their beloved pet because they are facing a health or financial crisis. This is a heartbreaking situation for the owner and the animal. We would like to help. Our Elderly Assistance Program is designed to assist persons 60 years old and older in keeping their pet with them for as long as possible. We have members who are willing to assist with dog walking, grooming, driving pets to the veterinarian, and even helping to purchase cat or dog food if necessary. Pets and the elderly. A Good Mix!

If you know of someone who could use a hand contact: Elderly Coordinator, 608-847-5558 or theaneys@mchsi.com

OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM

The Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter believes in fostering the humane treatment of animals through community education. We are developing age-appropriate educational presentations to take to private and public schools, scouting groups, 4H Clubs, and other community groups. Our topics include safety around animals, pet owner responsibility, tips on choosing a pet, and the importance of spaying and neutering. If you are interested in having a shelter representative speak to your group contact:
