Feature Pet of the Week: Truffles
Note: Adoption Fee discounted to $65 on our "Pet of the Week"
Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to EDI and staff for their fundraising efforts last week that benefited both The Cat Network and the Wisconsin Humane Society! With fun and creative work events, EDI was able to raise nearly $1,000 in cash donations and collected a great deal of much-needed supplies for both organizations. This is one of the best corporate events to benefit the Cat Network in the past few years! If you would like information on how you could host a fundrasing event at your business or place of work, please email us for information. Tax deductable donation receipts are available.
Our Adoption Center is located at 8121 West National Avenue in West Allis.
We do also greatly appreciate donations of cat litter, cleaning supplies and food. We feed our cats Science Diet, but if you have other food, we also help out families in need of food and donations are a great way for us to continue to provide that support.
We do also have cats in cages, and often that is for their own safety and well-being. If they are not yet spayed/nuetered, just came in and are being assessed for their temperment, have a medical/health condition that they are being treated for, or if they don't do well with all the other cats, they'll stay in a cage and in some situations come out for supervised play time.
We have adopted cats out after having them at the shelter for years, and just last month adopted out April, a 12 year old cat, after 13 months with us. These second chances and the happiness they bring to the families that adopt them are the reason we know this is the right thing to do! When you adopt a cat or kitten from us, you not only save the life of the one you adopt, but also the one who takes his place!
Our adoption fee for adult cats is $75 for one, or $100 for two. All of our adult cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV, vaccinated against distemper, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, litter-box trained, and veterinary checked. We also send you home with a starter bag of food.
Ask us about our "Senior Cats for Senior Citizens" Program! Senior cats, over the age of 10 years, and potential adoptors over age 50 are eligible for this program, where we drop our adoption fee to $50 for these special pets.
Our fee for kittens is $75 for one, or $125 for two. All of our fees include: an exam by our veterinarian, a feline distemper vaccination, a feline leukemia test, FIV test, de-worming, litter-box training, spay or neuter of cats six months and older, and a starter bag of food. As part of our adoption process, we do ask for references from current or past vets, or if that is not applicable, may ask for other references. Minors may not adopt without their parents coming in and serving as the adopting party. If you live in an apartment, documentation regarding the pet policy and contact information for your landlord is required. The Cat Network reserves the right to refuse any adoption based on afore-mentioned criteria or based on the assessment of the adoption coordinators who are resposible for protecting the best interest of our cats and kittens.

The Cat Network needs foster homes!
Foster homes are an important part of our adoption program, with three primary areas of need:
1) Pregnant cats/Mother cats with kittens
2) Cats who need to be socialized and/or rehabilitated socially
3) Cats with special medical needs (usually rehab vs long-term care needs)
You could serve a critical role in our mission by opening up your home temporarily to a cat or kitten in need. Call or email today if you are interested in fostering any of our pets. Those in need of a foster home have "Foster Me" in their name on our Adoptable Pet list.
Temporary hold on intakes
Due to the number of cats and kittens we have, we will not be able to take in cats or kittens until we adopt out more of our current residents. We have started a waiting list so that we can continue to help people and cats in need, and are willing to post pictures and profiles of cats with your information to help you find a new home for your pet if we can't take them in at the time.
Our foster network is actually key to our ability to care for so many misplaced pets - please see below for ways you can help! Upcoming Cat Network Events
We are planning to host some fundraising events this year, including a pub crawl, a bowling tournament, an open-house, a rummage sale, and other things that are still in the works. If you would like to help with any of these events, attend these events, or have other ideas or resources for us, please email us today!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Are you a non-profit?
The Cat Network is a 501(C)3, non-profit organization. All of the money we recieve is spent on the ones who need it - the cats! Donations are tax deductible and we are happy to provide you with donation receipts.
How can I make a donation?
We are currently raising funds to cover a surgery for a cat Milo, and for other emergency vet care from 2009. Below is a link where you can make a donation through PayPal. If you do not have a PayPal account or do not feel comfortable with that process, you can mail checks to our shelter address (made out to Cat Network), or just stop in and place a donation in our collection jar. We also collect donations when we are at pet shows or other events.
Is everyone a volunteer or do you get paid?
The Cat Network is a volunteer-based organization. Our caring volunteers donate their time, love and skills to help give our cats a second chance. No experience is necessary and much of what we do can be learned as you go. Veterinary care is provided by licensed vets, although our volunteers do administer medicine when needed. If you would like to volunteer with the Cat Network, please stop in or email us today!
Do you really let the cats walk around the adoption center?
When you enter our door, you will be greeted by friendly volunteers and the cats themselves! At the Cat Network, we aim to socialize our cats with other friends and people, and believe that no cat should have to live their life in a cage. Our cats love attention and will walk around you and try to sit on your lap. This gives you the unique opportunity to interact with them - and they love it!
What does it mean to be a "no-kill" shelter?
Unlike many other organizations, we do not have time limits on adoptions, nor do we euthenize cats because they are old, feral or otherwise difficult to adopt. Instead, we try our best to rehabilitate and socialize these cats, who most often just need a reason to trust people again, or need a home environment that is better suited to their personalities. We will keep the cats at our shelter or find them foster homes if we can't find them a permanent family.
How else can I help?
We are currently collecting weight control (diet) cat food for some of our older/larger cats. Regulating their diet and wieght is an important part of keeping them healthy while they wait for thier new homes. If you would like to donate food, please contact us!
