Wisconsin Bichon Frise Rescue

Please join us in prayer for “Winter”!
“Winter” and his new mom Patti are asking us to join them in continual prayer.
Winter developed severe respiratory distress last night & is now in the animal hospital
where X-rays indicated a mass on his lung. We are believing together that “Winter” will be free from any cancer or serious illness.

Other Ways You Can Help!

1. We need monetary donations (NO gift is too small). This helps us with multiple expenses but most importantly with our vet bills which are becoming quite high!

2. Do you shop online? If so, we have a fabulous new opportunity for us to earn money while you shop online! It's so easy and such a great chance for us to make some money. iGive.com is a site that allows you to shop at over 670 of your favorite stores, such as Barnes and Noble, PetMeds, Kohls, and gives Wisconsin Bichon Frise a portion of your sale (no extra cost for you!) For more information about the program or how to sign up, e-mail us at: wibichon@yahoo.com
click here for more details: iGive

    3. Do you use a Kwik Trip card? If so consider allowing Wisconsin Bichon Rescue to earn the 3% instead of you getting the money back. We need 5 people to sign up before we can start the process. If you'd like to do this e-mail us at: wibichon@yahoo.com

    4. We want your old printer cartridges! Instead of throwing them away, send them our way. We can send in the empty cartridges and get money back for each one. Just another easy way for us to make extra money!

    5. We have recently signed up for e-bay! If you are an e-bayer, be sure to watch for our sales. We are: wibichonfriserescue
Remember!!! All donations are tax deductible and should be sent to:

      WI Bichon Frise Rescue, Inc.,

15562 County Shop Rd., Darlington, WI 53530

As always, WE CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR YOUR DONATIONS AND SUPPORT! Without you, we couldn't continue our important mission.

    Looking for a Rewarding Opportunity?

Would you like to make a difference in the life of a homeless dog? If so, please consider being a foster parent! We hate to turn dogs away due to a lack of foster homes! Foster families help care for the dog until a forever home is found. Don't be afraid if you've never done it before! We have support personnel on standby always willing to offer advice, answer questions, and offer words of encouragement AND gratitude! Be advised that being in foster care means these darling fluffs may have some "non perfect" traits such as housebreaking issues. We do have resources and help for you to make this the best possible stress free situation for you and the dog. We'd love to have you consider this extremely rewarding opportunity. If you are ready to help us out, please e-mail us
We are waiting with WIDE OPEN ARMS!
Adoptions lovingly limited to a 150-mile-radius of Madison, WI so that our volunteers can come to visit you in your home. For an application please e-mail: wibichon@yahoo.com

Commonly Asked Questions About the Bichon Frise Breed

QUESTION ANSWER
How big do Bichons get? Bichons on average are 10-18 pounds and stand 9 to 12 inches tall
How often do Bichons need to be groomed? Bichons should be groomed on average every six to eight weeks. You should also be brushing your Bichons on a weekly basis to help prevent mats and keep their coat looking and feeling healthy.
Are Bichons good with children? Typically yes however it really depends on the dog. They do compete for busy parents' time which is one reason that Bichons are surrendered. Parents should also teach the children how to treat the dog gently, and when it is best to leave the dog alone.
What is the average life span of a Bichon? Approximately fifteen years.
I've heard Bichons are more difficult to potty train is this true? Bichons are a challenge in the potty training department! However, it simply takes patience and a consistent routine. Make sure to reward your Bichon with any and all successes (even the small ones). Keep your Bichon on a regular schedule, and don't give up. If you are afraid of ruining your carpet, there are piddle pads you can purchase as well as piddle panties/belly bands, AKA dog diapers! Any person fostering for WI Bichon Rescue and any dog newly adopted from WI Bichon Rescue can have free belly bands/piddle panties. Just ask!

NEWS

HELP US SAVE BICHONS IN NEED OF MEDICAL CARE!

Bichons that are surrendered to Bichon Rescue are usually in need of vaccinations, heart worm testing, fecal culture, dental exam & cleaning and are frequently not spayed/neutered or groomed. Each receives a comprehensive physical and we treat any existing conditions. The cost to do this far exceeds any donations that we receive from adoptive families. Rescue groups must make up the deficit in order to continue taking dogs into rescue. We need the help that you can provide us with!

Who Are We & What Do We Do?

Wisconsin Bichon Frise Rescue was founded to serve the needs of Bichons Frises and their owners in about a 150-mile- radius of Madison, WI. Wisconsin Bichon Frise Rescue, Inc. is NOT a shelter. We are a group of volunteers who take in dogs from various situations, most commonly from someone surrendering the dog (i.e. moving, unable to care for animal anymore, etc) and from puppy mill situations (if you are unfamiliar with a puppy mill, scroll down to the bottom of this page and look under Helpful Links & Resources. There is a web link to a puppy mill information page) and allow them to live in our homes until a forever home is found. Our foster homes provide the dog with various things such as: food, behavior modification, medication/vet care, exercise, socialization, and of course lots of LOVE! Our small group of dedicated volunteers is actively involved in this effort, and assist the foster home in their efforts. The needs of rescue groups has increased dramatically over the last several years. Due to this fact, foster homes are desperately needed for Bichons within 150 miles of Madison, WI. If you don't have a Bichon, fostering may be a good way for you to see if a Bichon Frise is right for your home. If you are unable to foster, but would still like to be a volunteer, we gratefully welcome the assistance of people who can pick-up and transport too.

CONTACT US for a fostering/volunteer application!

Once an individual sees a fluff they believe is a good choice, we have them fill out an application. After the application is processed and references check out, we will set up a time to do a home visit with the dog. If everyone involved feels like this is a good match, the dog will become adopted and sent to his/her new home!

SURRENDERING A BICHON FRISE

If you need to surrender a Bichon Frise, you may contact us at this same e-mail address (wibichon@yahoo.com) or call: (608-482-1513). Area animal shelters generally ask us immediately to take Bichons into our home environment because of the stress they suffer in a kennel situation.

Questions & Answers About Adoption

QUESTION ANSWER
Where can I see dogs available for adoption? At the very top of this page you will see a link that says "Our Adoptable Pet List". Click on the link and it'll take you directly to our available Bichons! Otherwise, if you scroll just below this table, you'll see a link that says "click here for a list of pets at this shelter". You can see pictures and read all about him/her directly from the foster parents who know him/her best!
Why do I have to live not much farther than 100 miles of Madison? Part of our philosophy is establishing a relationship with you as a new pet owner. We want you to meet the dog and see if it's a good fit. One of our volunteers will bring the dog to you and give you a chance to ask questions and see how he/she interacts at your home. We will also check in after a few weeks post-adoption to see how things are going for you and the dog.
Why do I need to provide references? We want our Bichons to go to trustworthy loving homes. If you have a pet we will be contacting your vet to inquire about the care of your current animal. If you do not have a pet, we will contact non family references to ask about you and your home. References will be checked prior to finalizing the adoption.
How much do these rescue Bichons cost? The cost to adopt one of our dogs depends on age and health.
Will the dog be up to date on shots? Yes! Prior to adoption any dog from Wisconsin Bichon Rescue will be up to date on all vaccination shots and be tested for heartworm.
Can I expect the dog to be spayed or neutered? Yes! Part of the adoption fees guarantees your Bichon will be spayed or neutered.
What do I need to do to start the adoption process? Send us an e-mail, wisconsinbichon@aol.com and we'll forward you an application. Simply fill out the application, return it to us, and we'll be in contact with you very soon!
What happens if I don't see a dog I like on the site or if I meet the dog and it won't work out? No problem! We are constantly getting new dogs into rescue. Be patient and just keep checking our site! Sooner or later the right dog will catch your eye and your heart.
