Penguin Beware
STB gelding returning to the program. Penguin Beware is now well settled in Wisconsin at the ASAP farm.
Penguin is the largest of the four horses that are turned out together in a large area, but he is also the most submissive horse. Because of his nature he is not prone to any conflicts - he stays well out of the way of any dominant horses. He does buddy up with one or two other horses and currently his best turnout buddy is Sunny Forecast who is an alpha mare!
He can be head shy if you approach him and go right for his face or ears - he needs to be approached quietly. He loves attention and loves being doted on. He must have had some type of rough handling at one point in his life as he can be skeptical when first approached. Once you have him he is willing to do anything asked of him. He is great for the farrier, and loads and hauls like a gentleman. I have ground drove him and he stands without having to be held to be harnessed. He just is so respectful! He moves out well under harness and is sensitive to the bit. I have not yet been on his back. Penguin moves well and shows no sign of lameness even at a fast trot. He needs a loving home and would do well with women, or a man who is not rough or loud.
News
Currently we have around 65 horses in our program. Most are Standardbreds some are Thoroughbreds and some other breeds. We have all sizes and ages. About 90% are sound and ready to ride. 10% are injured and would be companion animals. Our fees vary but most are $450.00-$700.00.
Who We Are
A Standardbred is a cross of the Morgan, Thoroughbred, and Warmblood. They are used for harness racing at racetracks around the world. Many of the horses that we place once lived and raced in places such as New Zealand and Australia, and/or Canada, as well as numerous locations around the United States. When a Standardbred can no longer race, or when the decision is made by the owner, trainers, and veterinarians to retire a horse for various reasons, the race owner may choose our placement program as an alternative to a private sale or a horse dealer. Most race owners want the best for their horse and that is why our program is so popular. They know when they place a horse in our care the horse will never be transferred out of the charity's umbrella of adoption, and will never be raced again.
