Our Featured Pet... Daphne "Daphne"! Such a pretty name, such a pretty face, such a lovely girl! Why doesn't she have her forever home yet? This lovely lab and shepherd mix black dog with a white star on her chest has been waiting for a forever home since November, 2007. She came to the Northwoods Humane Society as a beaten and frightened animal. She was pregnant, full of porcupine quills and shot through the shoulder.
Daphne is currently in a foster home. Her foster family gives her nothing but rave reviews! She has one limitation - she must be the only pet in the house!
Daphne has the beautiful black lab body with short hair and the handsome full tail of a shepherd dog. When I asked her foster family what she likes to do, they gave me a full list. She loves to go for walks and is excellent on the leash. She likes to watch TV and wants to be with you when you read a book. She loves pontoon rides or playing in the lake. She is very attentive while you are fishing and especially if you catch a fish. She likes to play with toys and is not the least bit destructive. When you go to bed, she goes to bed and she sleeps through the night. She has learned to trust people and has a big heart. Now she needs and is ready for her forever home. Call the Shelter at 715-634-5394 about Daphne. UPDATE! On May 20th, 2009 Daphne will have been with us for 1 YEAR, 6 MONTHS Waiting for some family to call her own. Do you have room in your heart and home for this wonderful girl. Please Don't Forget Her!
DAPHNE UP DATE!!!! On Tuesday July 7th Daphne went to live in her new forever home. All reports from her new home have been wonderful, she seems to be fitting in perfectly.
News "Help Make Their Holidays Bright It We are starting to gear up for the Holiday season at the Shelter. Right after Thanksgiving we will start our usual Holiday decorating to make the Shelter Festive for both people and pets alike. Don't forget the pets at the Shelter this Holiday season. We will have the dogs Christmas Stockings hung by their kennels just waiting to be stuffed with that special Toy or treat that will make them feel loved and wanted. Let's not forget the Kitties and the Kitty Christmas tree that will be set up in the office waiting for the Christmas presents for the Kitties to be laid underneath it, they all love new toys to keep them occupied. If you have a little extra time while your here dropping off Kitty presents and stuffing Doggy stockings, they would love for you to spend a few minutes with them. Just petting and offering a warm lap can make their day more fulfilling. Everyone needs to feel loved at the Holidays. .
Who We Are
NHS was authorized as a non-profit organization in 1987.
Our shelter was opened in Oct. of 1996 on an 87 acre site. It is surrounded by beautiful
rolling fields that change with the seasons, making our volunteer-mowed walking trails a
never-ending source of pleasure. We have 16 dog runs and 30 cat runs. The building also
includes an office, receiving area, visitation room, cat and dog isolation areas, indoor
and outdoor play areas for cats, three outdoor exercise runs and a 100 x 100 fenced play
yard for dogs. Other areas include laundry & grooming, kitchen and storage rooms.
We have a small paid staff and rely heavily on volunteer help in all areas. There
are always too many animals, too much to do and far too little time! But, in spite of it
all, the shelter is a fun place to work or visit. Our animals are treated like the
individuals they are and for many, this is the first stable and kindly home they've ever
known.
We have a website at http://www.northwoodshumanesociety.org
Adopting a friend
We require a pre-adoption form to be filled out and also
interview prospective new families. Our cats and dogs are brought up to date on their
vaccinations and are altered before being placed for adoption. Our adoption fees are $110.00 for dogs and puppies and $65.00 for cats and kittens.
