We need volunteer foster homes! If you have IG experience and would like to foster, please fill out Lifeline Volunteer Application.

Please Note

**Our dogs are fostered in private homes in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We do not have a shelter, and DO NOT allow 'drop ins' to see the dogs. Our address is for mailing purposes only. Please email if you would like to meet with a volunteer to get to know the breed. We check references prior to any visits. Thank you!**

Who We Are

Lifeline Italian Greyhound Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer rescue for re-homing Italian Greyhounds. We are based in the Minneapolis area, but welcome IGs who need rehoming from across the U.S. We accept IGs from shelters, humane societies, all-breed rescues, and directly surrendered from their owners.

Our Foster Dogs

Our rescued Italian Greyhounds are fostered in private homes with IG experience. All are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and assessed for any training or behavioral issues before placement. They go to their new home with a collar for ID tags; a martingale collar and lead for walking; vet records; a detailed schedule on feeding, exercise, training, sleeping and bathrooming needs; any needed medication; sweater/coat in cold weather; and specialty dog food. Many take along special toys, belly bands, crate pads, or other things we've purchased for them, too. We usually have spare crates we can include one upon adoption, or we can send along a loaner crate to use for up to six months, at no charge. There is a non-refundable adoption fee for each dog placed, which is typically $350 for puppies under one year old, $300 for older puppies and adults, and $250 for special needs or senior dogs 9 years or older.

Adopting an Italian Greyhound

Our Italian Greyhounds are most often adopted to families within Minnesota or Wisconsin. We occasionally adopt to families in Iowa or Illinois, but it depends on the availability of volunteers to do home visits in that particular area. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS. We do require that you come and meet with the dog before finalizing the adoption. This would mean traveling to one of our foster homes in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

Adoption Procedure

1) Visit our official rescue website at Lifeline Italian Greyhound Rescue, read the info about Italian greyhounds, then complete the adoption application located on the website. You can submit by email, print and send via snail mail, or fax. All adopters must read our basic information on Italian Greyhound dogs and fill out and return a written application form. We will NOT consider incomplete applications. 2) We will go over your application, call your vet and your references. 3) If your application is approved, we will schedule a volunteer to meet with you at your home - with all pets and anyone who lives in the home - for a home visit. All this must be done before we approve any applicants for adoption. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and be applying for themself, not a family member or friend.

Once You're Approved For Adopting

If we don't have a dog available that is a good match with your family, we will put you on our waiting list. It is NOT first come, first served, as we try very hard to match the right IG to the right family. It is especially important to get on the waiting list if you have a specific request for a young or female IG, or if you have children, large dogs, cats or an unfenced yard, since it may take longer to find the perfect IG for your family.

After You've Adopted

After adoption, you'll become part of our community of Italian Greyhound owners. We'll be in touch with you many times during the initial weeks after adoption, and we will be available if you need any help while your new dog transitions into your home. We have playdates for both our former fosters and also for all the families within our Italian Greyhound community. We also send out a monthly, emailed newsletter with a calendar of events, tips on training, and ideas/advice for caring for your Italian Greyhound.

Donations & Gifts-In-Kind

There's a never-ending need for any type of dog supplies: Frontline Topspot; crate pads; enzymatic cleaners; exercise pens; baby gates; martingale collars; 6 foot leashes; phone cards; gas cards; and of course, cash donations. All donations are appreciated!

Volunteering

We always need experienced IG households who can foster our rescue dogs. We also need volunteers who who can transport, plan/implement fundraisers, sew items for fundraisers and for the foster dogs (coats, crate pads, etc.), and to keep records. Please email if you are willing and able to help.
