Adopting A Friend

Each year VIPP places about 200 cats and dogs in homes on Vashon and returns about 120 cats and dogs back to their owners. So much of what we do depends on people in the community and the willingness to adopt rescued animals. We appreciate you coming to us when looking for a new pet and the animals "really" appreciate it. Adopt a cat day is every Saturday from 11:30-2:30 at our cat shelter at off of Old Mill Rd and dog adoptions are by appointment only, as dogs available for adoption are not housed at the cat shelter, but are in foster homes on Vashon.

As you look through our animals available for adoption -you will see that many of them are found cats that were never claimed. VIPP goes to extremes to try and find the owners of these animals by running an ad in the paper; putting up posters in the neighborhood; listing the animal on the website as well as on our interactive Vashon Map of lost and found cats and dogs. After all these avenues are exhausted and no owner comes forward - the animals are spayed or neutered if not already, tested, de-wormed, de-flea'd and vaccinated. They are given food, shelter, love and attention until they can find a new home.http://vimeo.com/34170899

VIPP is happy to talk with you about adopting a pet for your loving home. It is so important to find the right animal that fits the way you live so it can become a real member of the family. The volunteers spend a lot of time with our adoptable campanions, so they know much about the needs, personality, likes and dislikes, etc of each animal. By asking the right questions, they can hopefully find the perfect pet for you.

Volunteer Marc Pease made this sweet video about a couple of adopted VIPP kitties - enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKEo76WljPE&feature=g-upl

Dog adoptions are by appointment only, call 389-1085 or email dogs@vipp.org. VIPP's dogs available for adoption are not housed at the cat shelter, but are in foster homes on Vashon.

Thank you for considering to rescue an animal.

Who We Are

Vashon Island Pet Protectors, established in 1984, works each day to improve the quality of life for domestic pets on Vashon Island. This year we are celebrating 29 years of service to the community. Affectionately known Island wide as "VIPP,” Vashon Island Pet Protectors is a no-kill and non-profit 501c3 animal rescue organization run by compassionate and dedicated volunteers.

Our primary objective is to make sure there are no homeless pets on the Island. We accomplish this by running an efficient lost and found operation and find new homes for relinquished dogs and cats. In an effort to prepare for Island wide emergencies, we have started a new micro-chipping program. All animals that we adopt out are micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, and are current on their vaccinations.
