Our Pet List

Contact us!

Our email address is szetz@cityofprosser.com I try to respond as soon as possible, but it might take a bit longer on weekends! Please use the email address for contact. Many of our changes are complete. Adoption fee is now $50 with $25 refunded upon proof of spay or neuter. NEW MUNICIPAL CODE: Rescue groups may now waive adoption fees at the discretion of the Code Enforcement Officer, and only after the general public has been given an opportunity to adopt. Animals that are not adopted will be free to rescue groups willing to take them. Most dogs are held between 3-7 days. If you are interested do not delay in contacting us. Due to the high volume of animals that we pick up, we unfortunatly must continue to make room . Dog license and Dog at large ticket is now $150.00. Remember to license and control your dog or it will cost you!!!

Who We Are

We are a very small shelter with nine kennels that houses only dogs. Prosser is about half way between the Tri-Cities and Yakima.

Donations Needed

We ALWAYS need dog food and other supplies! You can bring a bag of dog food or other supplies by the shelter anytime, if we're not open please bring it to City Hall. Collars, leashes, and flea and tick shampoo and treatments are also in great demand.

Adopting a friend

Adopting a pet from our shelter is simple. The adoption fee is $40 plus $10 if the dog has been vaccinated. You are eligible for a $25.00 refund from the City of Prosser if you have your new dog spayed or neutered within 90 days from the date of adoption, or provide proof of spay or neuter by mailing or faxing a copy. Please fax it to our City Hall at 509-786-3717 or mail to Code Enforcement 601 S 7th St Prosser WA 99350.

Some helpful hints to remember when adopting from us:

  • Sorry, but we DO NOT ship animals. Adoptions must take place here at City Hall.
  • Contact can be made in person, by telephone, or email. We will respond.
  • We will hold a dog for 24 hours once a person has made the request. This hold will remove the dog from the site. If the dog is not picked up within 24 hours the dog will be placed back on the site. A person may only make one request for a hold and if they fail to pick up the dog they will be moved to the bottom of the list
  • DO NOT drive over without having made an appointment with the CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, either by email (preferred) or phone contact!

    Importance of Spay/Neuter

Between 8-12 million companion animals are euthanized each year in America due to lack of homes. Only 1 in 9 cats and dogs born in the United States will find a home. The rest will be destroyed because nobody wants them. Could you choose which animal will live? It is a choice no one should have to make. Shelters are forced to make this decision every day. You can be a part of the solution by doing your part in spaying/neutering your pet! Also, when you adopt, go to a shelter and adopt an abandoned purebred or an adorable mutt, instead of supporting a backyard breeder or a pet store. Shelters often offer spayed or neutered puppies and dogs for a lot less money than do the backyard breeders and pet stores.
