Who
We Are - "Mikey's
Chance" is a non-profit dog
rescue organization organized under
Washington State articles of Incorporation and recognized by the IRS as
a Non-profit Charity. We
focus mainly on saving dogs that are at risk or on “Death Row” in
shelters in our area, and placing them to great families. We work with
individual adopters, private rescuers, and rescue organizations that
share our values. All our dogs are up to date on shots, sterilized, and
microchipped prior to adoption, and they are all carefully evaluated to
ensure the best possible match with adopters.
"Mikey's
Chance" - It's
named for a dog called Mikey, who was a beautiful, friendly black lab
whose people abandoned him. He spent several months in a cramped kennel
in an overcrowded shelter, slowly losing hope. Mikey finally snapped, a
victim to severe kennel stress. He tried to bite
several shelter staff, and was euthanized. This happened the very day
someone arrived to take him to a foster home. Mikey's chance at a new
life came too late ... and we are determined to
work as hard and as effectively as we can to make sure that this does
not happen again to any dog that we are in a position to help.
Mikey's
Chance Dogs - We
feel very strongly that any dog we offer for adoption should be made as
ready as possible to enter into your home as valued family
member. Consequently, Mikey's Chance dogs come to you already
up-to-date on shots and vaccinations, microchipped and sterilized
(spayed or neutered). Additionally, some of
our more challenging dogs receive from 3 to 5 months professional
rehabilitation and obedience
training by Gun River
Labs & Training, located in
an idyllic setting in the
Willamette Valley, 15 miles west of Salem, OR. The training is
detailed enough to prepare most dogs to take their American Kennel Club
"Canine Good Companion"
(CGC) tests.
DO YOU NEED HELP FINDING A HOME
FOR A DOG IN THE TRI-CITIES AND
SURROUNDING REGIONS?
We will
help you if we can. We
will need you to give us as much as possible of the
following information:
- Tell us
about
the dog - breed, sex, age, anything you know about its
temperament, etc etc.
- Is this
a stray
? Someone else's dog that you're helping ? Or your own
dog that you can't keep any longer ?
- Are you
available to foster the dog for a few weeks while we find it
a new home ?
If you can't foster it, can you
hold it for a few days
while we find a foster ? - If you
can email a
photograph, that's always a big help. We will arrange to
have the dog
spayed/neutered,
brought up to date on shots, wormed, etc ... and if you need help with
food, a crate, etc, we can sometimes provide that as well.
Please
email your request to
mikeyschance@gmail.com,
and we will get back to you very soon.
