Who We Are
The Coastal Animal Rescue & Adoption Center is dedicated to stopping the euthanasia of unclaimed healthy, adoptable dogs and cats in Grays Harbor County. We are a registered non-profit corporation in the state of Washington and have a 501 (C) (3) tax-exempt status with the IRS. Donations/ Contributions to C.A.R.A. are tax deductable for the donor.
Stray animals brought to our attention receive immediate medical attention with our consulting veterinarians for spay/neutering procedures, and are placed with one of our caring foster families while we access all the resources at our disposal for as long as it takes to find permanent placement (adoption) into a loving forever home.
The vision that brought our group together was the desire to build a No-Kill Shelter Facility here in Grays Harbor. We still hold that vision. However, in the interim, we have learned that the biggest problem our community and the stray animals face is unchecked over population. Therefore we shifted gears in the Spring of 2008 and made the decision to use the monies donated to us RIGHT NOW, not later.
We developed the Trap Neuter Release program to spay/ neuter feral (non-adoptable cats) which immediately effects the numbers of free-roaming animals that will not procreate this year or any future year.
In tandem with that Program, we have allocated an even greater amount of our donated funds to pay for spay/neuter procedures for adoptable animals referred to us, medical supplies for the local animal shelters. providing pet food for low income families with pets,and buying critical care-taking supplies for our generous foster families.
By shifting to DO WHAT YOU CAN RIGHT NOW mode, we have essentially become a "shelter-without-walls."
We have seen No-Kill programs and shelters work elsewhere. We beleive euthenasia of healthy, adoptable animals is not the answer. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure that Grays Harbor joins the ranks of pet-friendly and humane communities in Washington state.
