ON JULY 9, 2007, GRANT COUNTY ANIMAL OUTREACH TOOK OVER OPERATION OF THE MOSES LAKE ANIMAL SHELTER. WE ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH NOR DO WE RECEIVE ANY FUNDING ASSISTANCE FROM THE MOSES LAKE GRANT COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY OR CALICO CAT THRIFT STORE.

We rely on community support and donations to provide care for the animals at the shelter. Every donation and volunteer is sincerely appreciated.

GCAO now has its own own MySpace! Join the fun and get updates, as well as participate in discussions about what you are doing to help the pets in Grant County! Visit www.myspace.com/gcanimaloutreach and join our friends!

THANK YOU! To all who supported us at the Grant County Fair! We raised over $2,000.00 toward the Cat Haven project.

WE LOVE RESCUES!!!!!

We are eager to work with rescue groups, and strive to make the process as easy and pleasant as possible! Transport help/costs *is* available!

All of our animals are UTD on vaccines and microchipping is available.

If altering is required before transport, please let us know and we can arrange for it to be done. Please understand that we request a $65.00 donation to our medical fund for each animal that has to be altered.

If you are interested in taking one or more of our animals into your rescue, please first contact Carmon Derting at ckderting@hotmail.com to ensure the animal is still available. I can 'interview' the animal for you, takes more pictures if needed, etc. We will soon be offering a complete behavior testing profile on each animal.

Once we've determined that an animal or group of animals will meet your needs, if we haven't worked with your group before you will be asked to fill out our short form. Once all checks out, we will be happy to arrange transport if needed!

We look forward to working with you! Please contact Carmon at ckderting@hotmail.com with any questions or to have the rescue form emailed to you.

Spay/neuter legislation is being proposed for the 2009 legislative session that will help fund tens of thousands of additional spay/neuter surgeries for cats and dogs throughout Washington. Grant County Animal Outreach supports this legislation to help prevent animal homelessness and save animals’ lives. Your help is essential to getting a bill passed next session. Why Spay & Neuter is Important:

It's Good for Your Pet:
Spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives.
Spaying and neutering can eliminate or reduce the incidence of a number of health problems that can be very difficult or expensive to treat.
Spaying and neutering reduces the risk of many forms of cancer in companion animals.

It's Good for You:
Spaying and neutering makes pets better, more affectionate companions.
Neutering cats makes them less likely to spray and mark territory.
Spaying a dog or cat eliminates her heat cycle.
Unsterilized animals often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems than do those who have been spayed or neutered.

It's Good for Your Community:
Communities spend millions of dollars to control unwanted animals.
Animal shelters are overburdened with unwanted animals that end up being euthanized or suffering on the streets.
According to the Humane Society of the United States:
Average number of litters a fertile cat can produce in one year: 3
Average number of animals in an average feline litter: 4-6
In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats.
One unaltered cat could lead to the death of almost half a million cats and kittens over the next seven years.
Number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year: 8-12 million
Number of cats and dogs euthanized by shelters each year: 4-6 million

Be part of the solution. Spay or neuter your pet today.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption feesinclude:

Protect your pet. ShelterCare Pet Insurance Programs

$80.00 for an DOG or PUPPY. Fee includes first vaccinations, microchip and spay/neuter surgery. Your pet will be delivered to your vet of choice and you will be able to pick up the pet after the spay/neuter surgery. If your new pet is too young to be altered at the time of adoption, you will be given a Spay/Neuter Certificate and have a specific time frame to redeem the certificate depending on the age of your adopted pet. We also provide 30 days of Sheltercare pet insurance for no additional cost.

$65.00 for an CAT or KITTEN. Fee includes first vaccinations, microchip and spay or neuter. We also provide 30 days of Sheltercare pet insurance for no additional charge!

We also try to offer regular "altered friends" specials and discounts for our already altered shelter pets in order to find as many forever homes as possible.

SURRENDER FEES AND REQUIREMENTS

There is a $20.00 surrender fee for each adult dog or cat. This fee covers the care of the animal while it is at our shelter.

You must fill out a surrender form, and animal personality profile, whether the animal is yours or not. We need as much information as possible on every animal coming into our shelter in order to give that animal every possible chance at finding a home.

We do NOT have to hold your pet for any specific length of time.

We CANNOT guarantee your pet will be adopted.

We are a euthanizing facility -- there are more animals than homes. We do make every possible effort to find homes or rescues for every adoptable animal that comes into our facility.

We will not inform you of the final disposition of your pet, e.g. adopted or euthanized.

You cannot reclaim your pet without going through the adoption process and paying the applicable adoption fee.

If you find someone who wants your pet after it has been surrendered to our facility, that individual must go through the adoption process and pay the adoption fee.

Please make all efforts to keep your pet or find it a new home. Use an animal shelter as a last resort.
