Rescue is a service provided for Italian Greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes or surrendered to Rescue due to the death or divorce of the former owner. Occasionally, dogs are turned over to Rescue because the owner can no longer keep the dog and the dog was acquired from a source to which it cannot be returned.
IG Rescue members foster these orphans in their homes, where their health and temperament are evaluated. All dogs are taken for a veterinary check-up: vaccinations are updated, the animal is neutered/spayed and, if necessary, its teeth are cleaned. Each Italian Greyhound is evaluated so that it can be placed in a home suitable to both the dog and new owners.
Adopting a friend
The process to become approved for adoption includes an application, phone interview, and home visit. Once you are approved and if one of the fosters fits your lifestyle and needs as determined by the home visit, we will put in touch with the foster home where you will go to visit the dog. If we don't have a fit, we will put you on a matching list.
The adoption fees are as follows:
Up to 6 months $350
6 Months to 3 Years $325
3 Years to 8 Years $300
Over 8 years $275
These fees are sent to the Italian Greyhound Rescue Fund to offset the cost of medical expenses of the dog being placed, and provide medical care for future rescue dogs.

No matter where the dog is located, you must send your application to the rep closest to you.
A great way to learn if an IG is right for you is to attend a playdate and talk to the people who are already owned by an IG. If you share your life with an IG, please join the fun or help us start a playdate in your area so you can meet other IG fanciers and watch the Iggies play.

If you have found an Italian Greyhound or need to surrender an Italian Greyhound, please contact the rescue representative nearest to you and we will be happy to work with you. In urgent situations call Alice at 206-782-5445.
