News
LAPS is in need of foster homes for cats and kittens. LAPS sees three kinds of cat situations. Most often, a stray (not feral) cat is found. Our policy is to hold the cat for 15 days while we try to locate the owner. If the owner cannot be located, the cat is then available for adoption. We also have situations where the cats are willingly given up. This could be when the owner is no longer able to properly care for the cat, when the cat because a "special needs" individual, or when a new living situation does not allow for a pet. LAPS also deals with three or more litters of abandoned kittens per year.
When these animals come in, they immediately need a place to go. We are hoping to establish a big enough network of foster homes to fit specific needs and situations. The period for housing a cat can be from a few days to a month.
All of the cats are tested for disease and deemed healthy by Jerry Scherzinger, our local vet, before placed in a foster home. LAPS provides all supplies needed for pet care. Volunteers are available to feed and take care of the cat if requested.
If anyone is interested in making their home available for a foster kitty, please contact Lopez Animal Protection Society. It is immensely satisfying to provide foster care. This can be a win-win for the caregiver as well as the kitty.
