Who We Are
Incorporated in 1976, the Moses Lake-Grant County Humane Society is a charitable, non profit, organization committed to the humane treatment of all animals - not just dogs and cats. We are dedicated to the prevention of fear, pain, neglect, and suffering, and are avid supporters of spaying and neutering. Through our affiliation with the Washington State Federation of Humane Societies and the Humane Society of the United States we remain active in supporting local, state, and federal legislation pertaining to animal welfare.
As of July 9th, 2007, our Animal Shelter will be turned over to a small, newly formed, local group who call themselves Grant County Animal Outreach. They will attempt to pick up where we left off. What this means is the Moses Lake/Grant County Humane Society will no longer shelter animals but we will continue to help animals in other ways. The cost of sheltering has become prohibitive, even with the help of our Calico Cat Thrift Shop, which has supported a majority of our continually rising operating expenses.
After 30 years in the animal sheltering business, we felt it time to step asside and put our efforts and money into more tangible results performing activites and fundraising that will benefit a greater number of animals over a shorter period of time. This will result in a broader, more immediate, positive impact on the local community. It is one thing to take care of the animals that exist today - but it is a provocative, larger challenge to prevent the unwanted animals of tomorrow. To prevent their birth is key.
Our plan is to raise funds to build a low cost spay-neuter clinic right here in Moses Lake. We own the land already. Now we begin building. If you want to help, our address remains the same. We will continue to accept donations for our cause, and we would be most appreciative of your support.
We will continue to support our local veterinarians, all of whom have helped us so much over the years in the fight to prevent unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. They, too, see the abuse and neglect of animals at the hands of irresponsible people.
Please contact us for more information. And thank you for all your support.
