Who We Are
The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society was created in April, 1994 and is a volunteer-run, non-profit, private "no-kill" shelter dedicated to helping find loving families for unwanted and homeless dogs and cats, promoting spaying and neutering and sharing humane education with the public. We provide healthy, adoptable companions which are spayed and neutered prior to adoption or will be at 4 1/2 months of age. Our cat shelter has a home-like free roaming environment. Our dog kennels are like home and they are on a schedule with our volunteer dog walkers. Animals adopted through us are tested for disease, have vaccinations appropriate to their age and have been treated for any parasites. A microchip is included. Kittens and puppies underweight or underage will be neutered under contract at the appropriate time.

. You may also call the shelter or visit us at Petco - Orchards or Petsmart - 192nd Ave. to obtain an Adoption Application. When we receive your application, a visit to your home is scheduled. A legal adoption agreement is then signed. You'll get an adoption package with your new pet that includes useful information on responsible pet care, discount coupons and specials. Adoption fees begin at $40. With few exceptions, our cats are trained to enjoy the great indoors only. Occasionally we have a few indoor/outdoor and friendly barn kitties available if proper supervision is provided. Dogs must be indoor/outdoor pets with a comfortable indoor sleeping space. All family members must meet animals prior to adoption approval. AVID Microchips are included.
West Columbia Gorge Humane Society gives preference to adopters local to the Portland-Vancouver area, but will consider good homes outside our region. We strive to place animals with non-smokers. Because most of our cats are very good companions, if you are not available as a companion during the day, we will ask you to consider adopting siblings or shelter-mates whenever appropriate.
Directions: From Hwy 205: Take Highway 14 East past Camas. Go past 15th Street and turn RIGHT on 32nd Street. Turn RIGHT when road dead-ends onto Index St. Bear LEFT at the Exterior Wood sign. We are the two buildings on the right.
