We have some fun and beautiful art exhibited at the shelter. We feature our local artists and their work that reflects an animal theme. A portion of each piece sold benefits the shelter. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO SUPPORT OUR SHELTER!
Who We Are
In 1982, the Animal Protection Society (APS) became incorporated with just a small group of caring individuals that recognized the need to provide shelter to stray and abandoned cats and dogs. The need is just as great today. As our island population increases, so does the pet population. The APS-FH is a private, non-profit organization that depends on donations to continue our animal care work. We are growing and improving the facility and invite you to visit our bright and cheery shelter.
Adopting a friend
All of our pets are spayed or neutered PRIOR to being adopted. The initial adoption process includes completing an adoption questionnaire. The fee for adopting a dog is $75.00, the fee for adopting a cat is $60.00. This fee helps us to offset the cost of care for our animals.
Come Visit Us!
The animal shelter is located just south of the airport runway in Friday Harbor. From the ferry landing, follow Spring St.(eastbound) for about 4 blocks. Go through the 4 way stop-sign. Turn left on Mullis St. Follow Mullis for about 2 mi. (you will see a long chain link fence which surrounds the airport runway on your right). At the end of the chain link fence is Shelter Road. Turn Right on Shelter Rd. We are the only building tucked up in the woods on Shelter Rd.
