Our adoptable pets usually live in foster homes with volunteers (new foster homes always needed!). We do not euthanize any healthy, adoptable animals.
HAVA was founded and based for many years in Westport, WA, where it operated the HAVA Heart thrift shop and provided care to hundreds of cats and dogs (including that port city's well-known "jetty cats"). Following the retirement of its founder, Shirley Brown, HAVA has been "adopted" by volunteers just down the road in Raymond. The reborn HAVA has active plans to build an animal shelter. We have a low-cost spay/neuter program in place, funded by local grants. We continue to care for the jetty cats, and generally do everything we can to help the animals of the Grays Harbor and Willapa Bay areas.
We require an application and adoption donation. Our standard adoption donations are $60 for cats and $100 for dogs. Under special circumstances the donation may be lowered (for instance, for an aged animal or one with special medical needs) or raised (for instance, for a purebred puppy hand-raised by our rescue volunteers).
We do not alter very young kittens or puppies. So if you adopt a young one from us, we will reimburse you the cost of neutering (up to our limit; please inquire) after you provide documentation that the surgery has been performed.
