Adopting A Friend

Adoption
All animals adopted from Homeward Pet receive full medical and behavioral evaluations, and our adoption staff is adept at working with people to ensure their new family member's successful transition into a permanent, loving home.

Anyone interested in adopting an animal from Homeward Pet is required to complete an adoption application (obtain an application from our shelter or from our website at www.homewardpet.org.)

You will be interviewed by a Homeward Pet adoption counselor, to ensure the animal you wish to adopt will be a good match for you and your lifestyle. Please allow a minimum of one hour for processing an adoption, but please note that during busy times such as weekend, this process may take longer.

All individuals who will be living with a pet must be available to meet the pet prior to the pet going home. Also, if you already own a dog and are interested in adopting a dog from Homeward Pet, your dog must come meet the new dog to ensure compatibility in the new home.

Fees
All of our animals are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, de-worming and flea control, and have been examined by our clinic staff.  The adoption fee includes a certificate for a free vet exam, micro chipping, if adopting a dog - free training classes, and coupons/special offers from local vendors.

Adoption Fees for Dogs:
$250 for puppy (6 mos & under) or small dog (25 lbs or less)
$175 for adult dogs (over 25 lbs)
$75 for senior or special needs dog

All dogs must leave on leash and collar.  You should bring a leash and collar from home when you pick up your new dog.

Adoption Fees for Cats:
$100 for adult cats
$115 for kittens
$175 for 2 adult cats
$200 for 2 kittens
$60 for senior or special needs cats

All cats must leave in appropriate pet carriers. Homeward Pet will provide a cardboard pet carrier as part of the adoption.

After adoption, Homeward Pet is always there to help with behavior consultations, positive reinforcement dog training classes, and any other advice an adopter may need.

Services
Adoption
Through the amazing efforts of 16 employees, 275 volunteers and generous donor support, we help over 1,300 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies find their forever home each year.

Animal Intake
Homeward Pet cares for homeless animals from all over Washington state and beyond, whether surrendered by owners, transferred from other rescue organizations, or removed from shelters that euthanize.

Rehabilitation
While at Homeward Pet, animals that have any behavioral issues coming out of animal shelters are retrained and rehabilitated to become better companions in their new homes.

Medical
Homeward Pet's on-site veterinary team assesses the health of each animal and provides appropriate treatment and vaccinations. In addition, Homeward Pet plays an active role in reducing the number of unwanted animals born by spaying or neutering every animal that comes through our shelter.

Companion Legacy Program
Most of us expect to outlive our animal companions, but what if due to medical incapacity or death, we are no longer able to care for them? The best choice is to place your pet with a family member or friend who they are already familiar with, however Homeward Pet is also happy to help you plan for their welfare should they outlive you.

Through our Companion Legacy Program, at your passing, your cat or dog will enter our adoption program. We will see that your companion is well cared for while we find the best and most appropriate new home.  To learn more about this program, please contact us.

Animal Awareness
At Homeward Pet, we strive to provide a safe and healthy transition home to the animals we rescue and adopt out, and we hope our mission inspires others in the community to learn more about animal needs and how to raise and live with a healthy and happy animal. To this end, we regularly send out tips on animal safety and care as well as make our services like the clinic and animal trainers available to members of the community.

Community Support
Homeward Pet offers low-cost spay/neuter services to pets of reduced income families.  Please call us to determine if you qualify for reduced rate surgery at (425)488-4444 ext 410. Appointments are required.

In the  unwanted event a companion cat or dog goes missing, a microchip is one of the most effective ways to make sure they are safely and quickly returned to their guardian. Homeward Pet will implant and register microchips for just $20! Cash only. No appointment necessary. All dogs and cats brought in for microchipping must be spayed or neutered.

Sometimes a little extra help feeding a cat or dog can make the difference in whether someone struggling to make ends meet has to give up their beloved pet or not.  Homeward Pet recently opened the doors of its new Food Bank, sponsored by Doggy Haven Resort.  Homeward Pet will be distributing pet food to those in need from noon to 3PM, on the third Tuesday of every month.

Volunteering
Homeward Pet Adoption Center simply could not survive without the help of dedicated, caring animal lovers who generously volunteer at the center each week. From bottle-feeding motherless kittens to answering phones to offering foster care to our special needs animals, our volunteers improve the quality of life for the homeless pets that are sheltered at Homeward Pet every year. In an effort to give back, Homeward Pet supports high school requirements for community service. For more information about volunteering, please visit www.homewardpet.org/volunteer.

Foster Homes
Foster homes allow Homeward Pet to save many more animals by opening up space in our shelter. If you are interested in providing a foster home for a Homeward Pet cat or dog, please call (425) 488-4444 and enter 402 for cats or 408 for dogs.

Donate
Homeward Pet is an approved 501(c)(3) charity (tax id#91-1526803) and is entirely funded through private donations. The cost of caring for our animals until they are adopted into an appropriate home is very expensive. From day-to-day care to sometimes extraordinary medical care, your monetary contributions are critical to rescuing the many homeless animals in our region. For more information on donating to Homeward Pet, please visit www.homewardpet.org/donate.
