Champlain Valley Canine Rescue (formerly known as Champlain Valley Pug and Small Breed Rescue) is a 501-C3, run by small group of volunteers dedicated to saving dogs from the horrific life of being a caged breeder in a puppy mill. Our mission is to rescue, provide refuge, and to find permanent loving homes for these dogs that truly deserve a better life. We also take in dogs, that because of extenuating circumstances, can no longer remain in their homes.
Founder Tammy Hall had a vision... A vision of saving pugs and other small breed dogs from the deplorable conditions of the Ohio puppy mills.
Our goal is to provide our dogs with the proper vetting they need while they live with a CVCR foster family, until such time as they are ready to be adopted into a forever home. Our dream is to one day, only have to find homes for owner surrendered dogs, and that the nightmares of the puppy mills are only a bad memory. We rely on the kindness of the public to make donations, as well as volunteering their time.
Our adoption donations help to cover vet expenses of these neglected dogs. Some require emergency surgery. All are spayed and neutered before being placed with their forever family. They also receive their vaccinations. Most have dental work, i.e teeth removal ect... Several of our dogs have required knee surgery to fix patella problems, and various other health issues that puppy mill dogs come with.
To fill out an application go to our website at http://cvcaninerescue.org.
CVCR is a volunteer only program that is based out of homes. Our process involves an application that must be filled out and approved BEFORE an appointment can be made to meet our dogs. The application includes a vet check, reference check, and verification that an animal may live at current home by home ownership verification or landlord verification. The fastest way to inquire about any dog is via a completed application and email.

Until you have held a tiny puppy in your arms as it kissed your face with slobbery puppy breath and felt the love,
Until you have held an injured or severely ill dog in your arms and felt their pain
and until you have looked into the eyes of a tired aging senior dog and felt their wisdom,
You will never understand the life of a rescuer.
We find beauty in the most incomprehensible places and the otherwise homely faces.
It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, sadness and defeat and find the true soul that lies within.
We are Rescue.
