Volunteer foster homes are always needed for animals who are not ready to be adopted. We regularly need temporary loving homes for underage puppies and kittens and sick or injured dogs and cats. Who We Are
Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the lost, abandoned, and homeless animals of the City of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle and to increase the number of these animals being placed in appropriate, loving, and permanent homes through adoptions, foster care, and outreach. To set a standard of excellence and leadership in shelter animal care, humane education, and progressive animal welfare programs.
Adopting a friend
We have a shelter full of delightful, adoptable dogs and cats. Our adoption fee for spayed or neutered cats is $75 and spayed or neutered kittens are $95. Spayed or neutered dogs are $100 and spayed or neutered puppies are $150. This includes a rabies shot, first distemper shot, kennel cough vaccine, the altering surgery and a free office visit with a local veterinarian.

From Route 29 in Charlottesville, drive north. After passing the Fashion Square Mall, take a left onto Rio Road. Your first right will be Berkmar Drive. Make a right onto Berkmar. The shelter is approximately 1 mile down Berkmar on the left.
We are open every day from 12-6pm.
