Aren't I just the prettiest???!!!
Hi, I'm Prissy. Someone dumped me off in the woods and I was SO excited and relieved when a nice man stopped and called to me. I came right to him and rode quietly with him to the shelter. Now I just need a permanent home. I am tired of being locked in a cage. I am very pretty and know it! The folks at the shelter think that I may be part Persian because of my scrunched in face. WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE RESCUES AND HUMANE GROUPS FOR THEIR CONTINUED ASSITANCE IN PLACING ANIMALS. WE COULD NOT DO IT WITH OUT ALL THE EXTRA HELP. Please visit our sponsors. They donate back to the shelter every time something is purchased because of a link from our site. Every little bit helps. All dogs 4 months or older must be registered with the Treasurer's office no later than January 1 of each year. Cost $7.00 unaltered dog and $5.00 altered. All dogs and cats 4 months or older must have a valid rabies vaccination given to them by a licensed veterinarian.

Amelia County Animal Shelter is located in Amelia County, Virginia. We are a government run facility operated by the Amelia County Animal Control.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide animal control as well as animal protection for the County of Amelia. By doing so we hope to bridge the gap between humans and animals, making it a better place for all to live.

Adopting a friend

If you are over 18 yrs of age and have a valid Identification card and can provide a gentle and loving home, then you are the perfect owner for a new pet. All owners are required to sterilize their new pet within 30 days of the adoption. Pets adopted out of the area must be sterilized at the owner's expense prior to leaving the county. There is no adoption fee at this time. Our local humane organization Amelia Patrons for Animal Welfare provides low cost, spay/neuter assistance for Amelia residents and anyone adopting a pet from the Amelia shelter. Joe H. Paulette Memorial Park, 16565 Five Forks Road Amelia, VA 23002. Monday through Thursday and Saturday 10am to 12pm, Friday and Sunday we are closed to the public. If you are unable to visit us during regular business hours please call the shelter and an appointment can be made.

Directions from 360 east or west:
From Richmond take 288 to West Hull Street. Follow Hull Street into Amelia. Go through stop light at the McDonalds. Then go through Blinking yellow light and take next left onto Goodes Bridge Road (this is second Goodesbridge Rd). Then take first right onto Otterburn Road go to stop sign and go straight. We are on the right in Joe H. Paulette Memorial Park behind the horse ring. From Farmville take East 460 to route 307 to East 360 take right on to Goodes Bridge Rd and then Right onto Otterburn Road. At stop sign go straight and we are on the right in Joe H. Paulette Memorial Park.
