I am Timber, best described as an “easy keeper” because I am housebroken, quiet and will only chew things that are mine. I love squeaky toys and car rides, especially when the destination is the dog park. But I have to tell you, I was not socialized to many things when I was young, so there are still many things that spook me, especially people I don’t know well. I would like a home with minimal activity and not a lot of company coming and going so I can learn, at my own pace, how to gain confidence in the world. I might do better in a home without small children but with another laid-back dog like myself that can help be a role model of confidence and trust.

Our shelter is open every Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. For more information about our shelter, visit our web page at www.foha.org or e-mail us at info@foha.org.
Our dedicated volunteers provide the love, care, and attention they deserve until they find a loving home of their own. Our shelter is funded entirely by donations.
We have a large selection of dogs and cats available for adoption. Our volunteers will be happy to help you choose the right pet for your household and lifestyle. When you visit our shelter, please allow ample time to choose your new family member. When you are considering adding a new pet to your household it is important to also consider the costs of food and medical care, the amount of time you have available to spend with a new pet, and the amount of exercise your new pet will need. Do not consider adopting a pet if you cannot provide a lifetime home for the animal.
Once you have chosen a new friend, you will need to complete an adoption application. A volunteer will make arrangements to visit your home and discuss the care of your new family member as well as your responsibilities as an adopter. On the day you pick up your new family member, you will need to allow sufficient time to complete and sign an adoption contract. In addition, there is a minimum non-refundable adoption donation of $225.00 for dogs, $75 for adult cats, and $100 for kittens. Your donation, which is 100% tax deductible, allows us to ensure that your adopted dog or cat has received all necessary veterinary care, including shots and spay/neuter, prior to adoption.
Please note that we care about these animals very much and we reserve the right to refuse the adoption of any animal to a home that we feel does not meet our standards. If at any time you need assistance or have questions about your new family member, a volunteer will be happy to help you. If at any time you decide that you cannot keep or care for your adopted friend, you MUST return them to Friends of Homeless Animals in a way that will not cause them harm. You must be at least 21 years old to adopt an animal.
FOHA requires a prescreening interview, application, vet check, and home visit on all potential adopters. The volunteers at FOHA take the adoption of our wonderful dogs and cats seriously. We hope you do, too. Remember that we are an all-volunteer organization, and we want to provide the best service to prospective adopters. Please seriously consider whether you are ready to adopt BEFORE you visit our shelter. Placing an adoption application on one of our wonderful dogs or cats indicates that you are ready and eager to adopt that animal as soon as possible and make him/her a member of your family.
The adoption process?from application, vet check, and home visit to contract signing and taking home your new family member?normally takes about one week. On rare occasion, due to volume of applications versus volunteer availability, the process will take longer than one week. But because we always have a waiting list of dogs and cats needing the safety of our shelter, many of them at risk of immediate euthanasia, FOHA cannot hold dogs and cats much longer than the usually one-week application process. If you are moving or plan on going on vacation in the near future, please present your application for adoption AFTER you are settled in your new situation or have returned to your home.
At this time, we are especially in need of volunteers to help clean our cattery and help coordinate cat adoptions. We also need volunteers to transport pets to and from vet appointments. And, as we strive to reach our goal of completing our new dog kennel, we need help with fundraising. You can help us by holding a yard sale, pet show, bake sale, or car wash to benefit FOHA so that this winter we can ensure that our dogs will have a warm place to stay.
We are currently soliciting funds to rebuild our dog kennel. FOHA 's volunteers were excited to break ground for our new kennel this spring, and we anticipate that this winter all our dogs can rest in warm comfort while they await their forever homes. But more funds are needed to ensure our new building is completed by wintertime. In addition to grants, we also need donations from members of the community. If you're interested in hearing more about our renovation plans, e-mail us at info@foha.org. Our building fundraiser, Jean Luther, will be happy to speak with you about our plans.
