HART is a no-kill animal rescue/support group, incorporated in 1990, that takes in and re-homes stray, abused and owner give-up dogs and cats. Whether the animal is a give-up or a stray, HART works with local veterinarians, trainers, foster homes, and kennels to provide temporary caring for an animal until it is placed in a loving, carefully-screened new home. Due to our home check requirement, except in special circumstances, HART can only adopt to people in the Washington, DC Metro Area (VA, MD, DC).

Foster Homes are always needed for our dogs and cats! Donations are always appreciated! Please know, we use our funds carefully - not a cent is wasted. Our overhead expenses are only around 1.9% of our budget! That means for every dollar you send our way, 98.1 cents goes directly towards saving the life of a frightened, unloved dog or cat.
