Interested in Fostering?

We are always looking for qualified foster families so we can help more homeless animals. If you are interested, please contact us today!

Foster Care parents offer a lifeline for underage, sick or injured animals who need some TLC before they can be adopted. With the love and care of devoted foster parents, these otherwise wonderful pets are given a second chance for life. Responsibilities include allowing the pet to live with you, providing full-service care, and bringing your foster to adoption events.  We will assign you a foster care supervisor so that we can work with you one-on-one for the best fit of foster animals.

Adoption Events

Chesapeake Humane promotes the adoption of pets from Chesapeake Animal Services by conducting off-site adoption events at PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus, Petco and various other locations.  Please see our website calendar for upcoming events: www.chesapeakehumane.org

Who We Are

Founded in 1972, Chesapeake Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is funded by private donors - we do not receive government subsidies.

The Chesapeake Humane Society operates the C.A.R.E. Clinic, a reduced cost spay/neuter clinic.  We also provide low cost vaccinations and microchipping.

While we aren't a traditional shelter, we do have cats and dogs in our foster care program that are looking for their forever homes.  The majority of the animals in our care come from Chesapeake Animal Services.  Please note: We do not take in strays or owner surrenders.

Our Mission: The Chesapeake Humane Society works to promote the welfare of companion animals through programs and initiatives that reduce pet overpopulation, increase adoptions, and encourage responsible pet guardianship through affordable pet care.

Our Vision: is to help pets and the people who love them find each other and stay together.

Come Visit Us

Chesapeake Humane Society has many adoptable cats looking for their forever home. Our cats are free-roaming so it's easy to interact with each one of them and see their personalities. Come by and just visit with them or find the one that connects with you to bring home!

We are located at 123 N. Battlefield Blvd., Suite D in Chesapeake (by Big Woody's Bar & Grill and near the Locks Bridge).

Adoption Hours:

  • Tuesday - Friday: 8am - 4pm
  • Evenings and Saturday - Monday hours by appointment.

All of the dogs we have available for adoption are through our foster care program.  Please contact us at 757-546-5355 or operations@chesapeakehumane.org to schedule an appointment.
