Volunteers needed!
Do you want to help homeless animals but not sure how to? We need volunteers to take pictures of the cats and kittens available for adoption and post them on this website. We also need volunteer drivers to deliver dogs to rescue groups in the area. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Amanda at www.appomattoxcares@yahoo.com.

The Appomatttox Animal Shelter is overrun with adoptable dogs and cats! It is URGENT that we get some of the animals adopted out to homes or to rescues before they are "humanly euthanised"! Every month dogs and cats are "put down" simply because there is no room! Won't you consider saving a life and adopting a homeless pet?
Who We Are
Appomattox Pound is a County funded holding facility for stray and owner surrenderd pets. Strays brought in wearing collars are held for 12 days, without collars are held for 7 days. If the animal is not claimed by their owner during the holding peroid then they are available for adoption or Rescue. Owner surrendered animals will be available for adoption immediatly.
Appomattox County Pound does not maintain this website. They provide information about the animals available for adoption. However, postings and information on this site are maintained by volunteers. If you have questions about any of our animals listed , please email your questions to www.Appomattoxcares@yahoo.com If you would like to meet one of our available pets, please call the number below for an appointment or stop by the facility at 3074 Morning Star Road during open adoption days, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am till 12:00 noon.
Adopting a friend
The adoption fee is only $5.00 for cats and dogs. You must sign an Adoption Agreement that states that you will spay/neuter your pet within 30 days of adoption, if applicable.
Appomattox County can only adopt out to Appomattox County residents and residents in adjoining counties. However, we are able to transfer animals to Humane Societies and Rescue Groups.
