Who We Are

Beagles to the Rescue is dedicated to re-homing abandoned, lost and stray Beagle dogs and puppies. When we acquire a dog or puppy, we provide it with veterinary care, vaccinations, and socialization.

Adopting a friend

We want to ensure that our rescue Beagles get good forever homes, so we will ask you to complete an adoption application that includes a number of questions about your living situation. We want to ensure that the Beagle dog or puppy that you adopt meets your desires and expectations (for example, dynamo or couch potato dog), which will help make your adoption much more likely to succeed. Our adoption process in a nutshell: application submitted, references contacted, home check done, family (and pets) meet the dog, payment made, and your new pup goes home with you.

Many of our dogs live at the Family Dog Club in Chesapeake, VA. This is a working kennel and agility school. We ask that you call ahead to ensure that you will be able to meet with our BTTR pups. We will also make arrangements with you to have any particular dog that is in foster care to meet you at the family dog club, as well. Call 757-204-4411.

Long-Distance Adoption

We are located in CHESAPEAKE, VA, which is not too far from the VA / NC border. Long-distance applicants, please understand that while we will consider out-of-town applicants on a case-by-case basis IF we have the ability to do a home-check, we generally won't adopt out to a home more than 50 miles away. We have to consider the cost of gas, as well as what will happen if an adopter from out-of-town decides to relinquish the dog.

Our sister Beagle rescues north and south of us have their own great Beagles available for adoption and if they are closer to an applicant, the logical thing is to refer the applicant to the closer rescue group. We *understand* that almost every out-of-town applicant could and would provide a GREAT home for a rescue dog. We try to facilitate that by sending you to a closer rescue group.

Sometimes when we refer an applicant to another Beagle rescue we are told they are contacting us because we have puppies available at a time when the other shelter does not. We have many more applications for puppies than we have puppies. If choosing among equally well qualified applicants, the fact that one is local will tip the scales in their favor.

Finally, we will NOT put a puppy or an adult dog on an airplane.

We will travel to work out an adoption when we can. For example, an Outer Banks, NC adoption was recently completed because the family traveled together to meet the dog and a BTTR volunteer who was going to the Outer Banks on vacation was able to do the home check and deliver the dog to the family.

If you are an out-of-town applicant, please call or email us before applying to adopt. Talk to us first. If you do choose to send in an application, please keep in mind that all application fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Please check with us before even applying because if we cannot help you, we can save you some effort. We may also be able to refer you to a closer Beagle rescue.
