THANK YOU ASPCA.......
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has awarded Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement and Rescue Center a grant for our 'SHELTERS FOR THE ELDERS" project. We are building permanent shelters for our elder horses. They currently have temporary run ins, but this grant will enable us to build stalls to house them in inclement weather.
Jeff Winn a local contractor in Chase City, Va. will build the shelters, he has volunteered many hours of his time building and making repairs at Blue Horse.
THANK YOU MOLLIE McCURDY..........
Mollie McCurdy of Waynesboro, Va. recently donated funds to help us lime our pastures and to build shelters for our dogs with special needs. They will have their very own play area, keeping them safe from the dogs with a bit more energy, and reduce any chance of injury by more playful canines.
Liming the pastures will give us greener healthier fields, which in turn will make happier horses and less hay consumption.
Who We Are
Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement and Rescue Center is dedicated to taking in horses that have been abused, abandoned, neglected, PMU and retired horses deemed past their prime by their former owners. Blue Horse is a life time care facility for the horses. However at times our facility is over the limit and we may offer a horse for adoption if a wonderful forever home is available.
We are a 501 c 3 non profit and depend on your help to continue our work. All the horses that come to the facility are put through Natural Horsemanship training to help them regain trust. The horses bond strongly within the herd and feel secure for the rest of their lives...
We are currently home to 43 horses.
Blue Horse is also home to 20 dogs.Mostly hounds that have been neglected or abandoned after the hunting season. We try to find loving forever homes for them so we can provide help to more hounds during the next season. Dogs adapt well to people and make wonderful pets. They are loyal and very laid back once they know their hunting days are thankfully over. A one on one home is a great place for a loving cuddly hound!!!
Cats are also a part of the Blue Horse community and we have several that are available for loving homes!!!
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting a hound or a cat please contact Blue Horse at bluehorsemukwa@yahoo.com
All animals that are adopted are spayed and neutered and up to date on shots. We do in home checks as part of our adoption process and require references from your vet and two other sources. We also require in home checks periodically after the adoption. It is also required that the dogs have a fenced in yard. No dog may ever be chained . We ask for a $125.00 donation at final adoption.
