Who We Are

We are a non-profit, all volunteer group whose mission is to improve the animal welfare in King William and surrounding counties and to ensure the humane care and treatment of animals. Since 1996, IRHS has been able to save hundreds of animals from being euthanized.

Volunteer with us!

IRHS is always in need of volunteers. There are several ways to volunteer with us. We are always desperately in need of foster homes for homeless pets to await being adopted. We also need help at our adoption stands. We participate in several events throughout the area all year long. Volunteers are always needed for those events. If you are interested in fostering or helping at adoption stands, please contact Dana at 804-769-4226 or email ingramdo@aol.com. If you would like to help with a special event contact Anne at 804-769-8340 or anne.farmer@hamiltonbeach.com.

We are also in need of people with experience in website design to create and keep up an IRHS website. Anyone with grant writing experience and/or fundraising experience would also be a great assistance to our programs!

You can also join us at one of monthly meetings to learn more about IRHS. Typically our meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at the Upper King William Library. Check the Country Courier for exact dates on our meetings.

Come Visit Us!

IRHS uses private homes for safehousing. Please call the safehouse contact in order to set up a meeting. We also hold adoption stands (depending on volunteer availability) at the Mechanicsville Petsmart on Saturday's 11-2.

If you would like to be added to our quarterly newsletter mailing list, please email your name and address to ingramdo@aol.com.

Upcoming Events!

The next IRHS monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 8th from 7pm-9pm at the King William Fire Department in Aylett. Anyone is welcome to join us! Call Holly at 804-769-0669 to make arrangements on attending!

Saturday, July 19th from 10am - 2pm at T-Town Tack in Tappahannock - we will be having a Dog Wash Fundraiser! We will also have pets available for adoption, fundraising items for sale, and a "cookout" with hotdogs and beverages for sale. Pamper your pet with a bath, some homemade dog treats, and other goodies for your dog while supporting our efforts for the homeless pets in the area!

Spay and Neuter your pets!

IRHS has a spay/neuter assistance program available to residents of King William County, King and Queen County, and Essex County. Please contact Holly at holly.hamel@bankofamerica.com for more information on this program.

Donations are always needed and appreciated

We are always in need of donations, either monetary or in supplies. If you would like to make a donation to any of our programs, please send them to IRHS, PO Box 264, Aylett, VA 23009. You are welcome to specify where you would like your money to go. You can designate it to our Spay/Neuter Program, our Redford's Pound Rescue Program, or into our General Funds for our foster pets. If you would like to donate supplies, you can contact any IRHS member. We are always in need of adult dog food, adult cat food, Frontline Topspot, or gift cards to locations that sell those products.

We are desperately looking for someone to donate land/property to us in King William County for us to build the first NO-KILL shelter on the Middle Peninsula. Please contact ingramdo@aol.com if you have any information on that.
