Foster homes allow us to save more and more dogs from death every year. We are in need of safe, caring homes to provide temporary housing for these homeless dogs. We pay for all vet bills and provide food and transportation for the dogs; you provide the dog a safe, loving place to stay while we find the right adoptive home. If you are unable to foster, but would like to show your love for dogs, we are always in need of monetary donations for veterinary care. Providing rescued dogs with proper medical care is very expensive and every donation makes a difference. We are able to accept secure online credit card donations through PayPal! Adopting a dog is a lifetime decision. Our goal is to match the right dog with the right family. We evaluate all rescued dogs for temperament and behavior. Once you have completed our pre-adoption application, we will verify the information you provided, including (if applicable) contacting the veterinarian who provides care to any other pets in your home. Within a few days - normally 48 hours - you will be contacted regarding the status of your application. Once you are approved, we will contact you with information about the dogs that best suit your household, or, if you have already chosen a suitable dog, you will be invited to complete a K-9 New Life adoption contract.


Please note that all dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, are up-to-date on their vaccinations, and are on heartworm prevention medication. To cover these expenses, we ask that a donation of $195.00 be made to K-9 New Life. All donations are fully tax-deductible.


Because our adoption process requires an application/contract, a home check, and a vet check, we can only adopt to a limited area. We prefer to adopt to Eastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina due to the required home check, but we will consider long distance adoptions on a case-by-case basis.


A dog listed on our adoption page as a "Courtesy Listing" is available for adoption; however, these dogs are not available through K-9 New Life. If you are interested in a dog that is labeled as a "Courtesy Listing", please use the contact information provided in that specific dog's description.
