Who We Are

Welcome to the Eastern Shore Regional Animal Control Facility. We are a regional facility providing shelter for animals from both Accomack and Northampton Counties in Virginia. These two counties reach from the the Maryland state line to the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, covering an area of approximately 662 square miles. Serving as housing for these two counties, Animal Control brings in a wide variety of cats and dogs, sizes and breeds are unlimited. Our Facility officially opened July of 2004, so we are brand new. The Facility welcomes established 501(c)3 rescue groups and hope to make contacts with as many as possible in an effort to raise our statisics. Our staff is extremely small given the large volume of animals taken in. We have one full time Attendant, and 3 Animal Control Deputies . who work in the field. We are graced with one devoted volunteer (Ginny). If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, or if you represent a rescue group, please contact us.(757-787-7091). The facility hours are 12 noon to 4 pm Tuesday thru Friday, and 9 am to 12 noon on Saturday. There is an answering machine available to leave a message if it is more convienent for you to call at a different time. We do however, frequently answer the phone during hours other than those listed above.

Adopting a friend

Adopting a friend is a lifetime commitment. If you find a cat or a dog on our PF site or in person, that you cannot live without, please let us know. Keep in mind the following information about Virginia state law regarding spaying and neutering. * If you adopt an animal that is already spayed or neutered, that animal can go home with you as soon as your application is approved. * If you are a resident of Accomack or Northampton Counties, and you adopt a mature animal not spayed or neutered, Virginia state law mandates that you must have the animal sterilized within 30 days of adoption. * If you are a resident of Accomack or Northampton Counties and you adopt a kitten or puppy , Virginia law mandates that the animal be sterilized no later the age of 7 months. * If you are NOT a resident of Accomack or Northampton Counties. We can help with the transporting the animal to a local vet of your choice and can provide you with contact information on vets in the area. As you can see, Virginia laws require spay/neuters of animals adopted from a shelter, animal control facility or other similar agency before they can leave the state. There is a very good yet simple reason for this: there are too many homeless animals and not nearly enough adoptive homes. We do not want to contribute to the overpopulation of unwanted animals. The Eastern Shore is a beautiful place, but some of our dogs and cats come from less than beautiful circumstances. Please open your heart and consider giving one of these deserving angels a home! Generally speaking, we do not do same day adoptions. We can usually review the adoption application and notify you of the results within 24 hours. The fee to adopt a dog is $45.00 and the fee to adopt a cat is $35.00. At this point, we do not have the ability to test or vaccinate our dogs and cats. It is our hope that we will be able to offer this as part of the adoption package soon.
