Introducing...Our Featured Kitties, Caroline & Callia
Caroline and Callia are sisters! One look at their photos gives that away, doesn't it? These two ladies were adopted as kittens by us and the owner took good care of them, and loved them dearly. However, as fate would have it, when true love struck their mom, it became miserably clear that her fiancee was horribly allergic to kitties. They tried lots of alternatives, but his symptoms were too much to bear. So she contacted us about a month ago to ask if we would take them in and find them a new home.
These gals are 1 year old. They are extremely affectionate, friendly, and fearless! Their favorite sport is play wrestling - you will often find them head over heels tussling on the floor! The sight of these two sisters curled up on the couch taking a cat nap or grooming each other will melt your heart.
Callia is a fearless, confident kitty comfortable with approaching anyone - people and pets alike (dogs included)! She adores playing with strings, feathers, napkins, and little knit balls that she can toss around and chase. Callia also loves water - she loves to play with water in the sink or shower and will drink straight from the tap.
Caroline is the shyer and more independent of the two, and is a bit hesitant before she runs up and asks to play. But it doesn't take her long to get comfortable. She is a sweet, beautiful, graceful little girl and loves to be petted and held. She'll sit on your lap or up in your arms and enjoy all of the love and attention. Caroline LOVES playing with ping pong balls and little play mice. She will carry the mouse around in her mouth by the tail and toss it around. Like most kitties, these two LOVE chasing their laser pointer around the room. Both have been trained well to scratch their scratching post - but they still appreciate a treat after they do so. Their favorite treats are dried fish flakes - they will do just about anything for these treats! These two kitties are great together and keep each other so entertained, they really are low maintenance pets. People always comment on how entertaining and friendly these two are - they love to be seen, meet new people, and discover new things.
Beware the vacuum cleaner - for Caroline hates it, but Callia doesn't seem too bothered by it. Neither are fans of thunderstorms.
You probably can guess where we are going with this, but our goal is to find them a home together. They have been together since birth, and get along well, and we want them to find their forever home together. If the right person comes along, we would be willing to offer them both for one adoption price. We know that animals mourn the loss of their companions, and we don't wish for them to go through that if they do not have to.

1. Gasoline gift cards - wonderful for our transporters as well as for our adoption counselors!
2. Monetary donations. Your donation will go towards the care of rescued animals that are constantly gracing our doorway. Care that includes spay/neutering, restoring them to health and happiness, giving all required shots, and then finding them all good, loving homes with caring and responsible people. Donations like yours also allow us to keep our spay/neuter costs as low as possible in order to try to reduce pet overpopulation in our local neighborhoods. We are a private, non-profit organization and we depend heavily on donations to help us to continue to do what we do!

Madison-Greene County Humane Society is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. As a small yet hopeful rural animal humane society and no kill shelter, we are dedicated to improving the future of our community's cats and dogs, both those homeless and in homes by providing high quality, low cost spay/neuter services and low cost community rabies vaccination events. Our mission is to build a community where animals are loved and respected and considered family; where people understand the value of animals and the responsibility it takes to care for them and give them a loving home; where animal abuse is a thing of the past and animals are treated with respect; where people are inspired and empowered to take the initiative to improve the lives and health of ferals; where we are all guided by the conviction that a world where people respect, love, and care for companion animals is a far richer world for all.

All looking for a home filled with love for a lifetime. We believe that both your lives will be richer for having adopted a shelter pet.
We hold adoption fairs at the Alexandria (Potomac Yards) PetSmart every weekend: Saturdays 10am - 8pm and Sundays 10am - 4pm. You can also provide financial support to help us care for any of our animals by clicking on the "Sponsor Me" button on that animal's page. Doing so helps us provide for that kitty while they are under our care (vaccinations, spay/neuter, toys, food, litter).
