Our Featured Pet...

Our featured pet is Nanette who has been with us for quite some time now. She too waited patiently as the kittens coming in at the same time were adopted. Nanette is a Maine Coon mix. She appreciates attention and love! At first we thought she wanted to be the only kitty in the household but she has taken up with Hannah, her new roommate. It turns out that she doesn't mind another kitty, she just wants to be a little picky about who the roommate is--prefering a kitty roommate who is laid back like Hannah.

VERY IMPORTANT-We have many wonderful animals waiting for homes. We know everybody has been waiting for kittens and they are now here. We urge you to consider one of our young adults or older kittens. Personality-wise, we have some wonderful animals that are being overlooked because of the "cute kittens" that are showing up at adoption fairs. Don't miss out on some of the most wonderful animals in the world who are willing to provide many, many years of love and compansionship. We urge you to come meet our animals at the weekend adoption fairs and help by adopting a homeless animals--but only if you can make a lifetime commitment to the animal.

We will be at Potomac Yards PetSmart each weekend. E-mail for other locations and dates.

News

  • The Humane Society operates a low-cost spay/neuter clinic to assist residents of Madison and Greene Counties and other animal welfare organizations. If you need financial assistance in getting animals spayed or neutered, want to participate in our free Spay Your Momma program or have feral cats to be spayed, please contact us at 434 326=2453 (clinic info only).

We need many items to enable us to assist with the influx of kittens now. Royal Canin BabyKat dry food, Authority kitten canned food and Purina Kitten Chow are always welcome. In addition, gasoline gift cards are especially important with the increased gas prices. You might also want to consider a gift card from PetSmart or Petco or a monetary gift to be used to sponsor a spay or neuter. We are a private, non-profit organization totally dependent on donations to allow us to continue to help animals in need of many types of assistance.

    About Us

The Madison-Greene County Humane Society is an outreach effort of the Madison County Humane Society. We are not a shelter, but an organization that offers an alternative to the County impoundment facilities. Our animals are taken from the public, from shelters and from other animal welfare organizations. The animals are then placed in loving foster homes until they are ready for adoption.

The main emphasis of this organization is not adoptions--but a solution to the animal over population problem. The Humane Society offers humane education programs and a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. The Humane Society will maintain an aggressive adoption program and now offers low-cost services spay/neuter services through an area clinic. Please contact the Humane Society for details.

    Adopting a friend

All of these animals need someone with whom to share their lives.

As we do not have a dedicated facility, we depend on foster homes for our animals. Adoptions are conducted weekends at the Alexandria Potomac Yards PetSmart. E-mail mgpets@firstva.com for additional locations and dates. We are in the process of relocating our offices so please bear with us if it takes a little longer for us to get back to you.
