Donate a BedOur dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. These beds are simply wonderful! Easy to assemble, easy to keep clean, and the dogs love them. We choose the Kuranda dog bed as our bed of choice for our rescue and our adopters because the dogs seem to enjoy them so much. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog to sleep in comfort, or a nice fleecy cover please click here.

WHO WE ARE

Hickory Hill K9 Rescue is a small 501c3 non-profit rescue group that helps dogs in need. We have been helping the homeless dogs for almost 20 years. HHK9 mainly takes in dogs from the Hanover, Caroline and King William County pounds. We do sometimes take dogs from owners and other situations. We work with different breed rescue groups for the purebred dogs whenever possible. We strive to place these animals in their forever homes.

The Importance of Heartworm Preventive ALL YEAR!!!

Heartworms is a deadly disease that comes these nasty flying pests. For those that don't know or understand heartworms here is a brief description of the process. The mesquito larvae travels through the bloodstream to the heart. The larvae then hatches worms. When the worms become adults they mate and have even more worms. Eventually the heart can fill with these worms until blood supply is cut off and the animal dies. Even dogs that are kept indoors need protection because it only takes one mesquito bite to start this deadly disease. Check with your vets office and see what the prime months are for mesquitos in your area. Here in Virginia we need to do this all year. WE BEG YOU to have your animal tested and KEEP it on preventive for this disease.

A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT OUR BEAGLES & HOUNDS...

The beagles and hounds that are safehoused with us are NOT hunting dogs. These are the ones that didn't hunt and were thrown away. They make wonderful pets and are excellent with children of all ages. Despite popular belief they do NOT bark all the time nor try to escape since they do not want to hunt. Consider a great natured beagle or hound as an addition to your family.
