| Niles is the best dog ever! He was brought into our care after we found him living in terrible conditions. He was skinny as a rail and way undernourished. His previous owner has since been charged with cruelty and Niles has packed on plenty of pounds. He is looking for the life he never had but always deserved. He is very affectionate and looking to bestow his loyalty upon a new family. Niles is undergoing heartworm treatments currently paid for by caring citizens in the community. Can you turn this pup's life around? If so, please come in and adopt him today! |

The Prince George County Animal Shelter has dogs and cats available for adoption. All animals receive a certificate for a free veterinary exam and a reduced fee spay/neuter certificate from the SPCA in Colonial Heights.
By State Law, anyone who adopts a dog or cat shall sterilize their new pet. There is a $ 10.00 adoption fee and a cash surgery fee for the sterilization of the new pet. This fee can range from $ 40.00 to $ 75.00 depending upon which local vet is chosen by the new adoptive owner. This fee must be paid in CASH ONLY. We have a listing of all the local veterinarians and their fees for sterilization.
Any animal adopted that is under the age of six months will have until the animal is six months old to have the animal sterilized. If we adopt an animal that is six months old or older, the new owner has thiry days to have the sterilization performed by a local veterinarian.
We must receive written notification from the veterinarian chosen to spay or neuter your pet that the sterilization has been performed.
We are restricted by State Law to adopt animals to only the cities or counties that touch our borders. So we can adopt to residents of Petersburg, Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie County, Chesterfield County, Prince George County, Sussex County, Surry County and Charles City County. Animals that are already spayed or neutered can be adopted to any city or county in the State of Virginia. If you are interested in adopting an animal that is not spayed or neutered, and you do not live in the surrounding counties, the shelter may be able to arrange the animal to be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter.
