FURS is an all-volunteer, non-profit dog adoption group based in Richmond, Virginia.
FURS is dedicated to collaborating with the Richmond City Animal Shelter to place Shelter dogs in permanent, loving homes in the Central Virginia area.
We also aim to foster positive relationships with other local dog adoption groups with the goal of coordinating services and facilitating adoptions. FURS promotes spay/neuter surgery as the single most effective way to reduce the homeless dog population.
Adopting a friend
FURS' goal is to find permanent, appropriate, attentive, and loving homes in the Richmond area for the dogs in our care! To that end, FURS asks all potential adopters to complete an adoption questionnaire which is carefully screened before approval (completing a questionnaire does not guarantee an adoption will occur). If the application is approved, a home visit is done and if that goes well, then the adopter takes home their new dog after completing a training session with the FURS Dog Behavioural Specialist. The cost of the training session is included in the adoption fee of $100. If at any time a FURS adoption does not work out, FURS requires that all dogs adopted from FURS be returned to FURS.
Due to the detailed manner in which our adoptions are screened, FURS dogs are available for adoption only to homes in the Richmond, Virginia area.
