Fancy Cats Rescue Team is desperately in need of foster homes to house pregnant cats, mothers with kittens, and kittens. We are also looking for foster homes for adults who are on the euthanasia list at area shelters. If you are able to help please contact us for more information at info@fancycats.org or 703-961-1056. |

Shy or scared cats, and in some instances social cats, are available to barns. Caretakers must feed cat food and water, and provide an area to keep them contained for 14 days initially before release. These cats are sterilized, FeLV/FIV tested negative, de-wormed and have current rabies and distemper shot. Your barns will be rodent free. If you are interested please contact usat info@fancycats.org or 703-961-1056

Katie is a happy, healthy, and playful 12-year-old, who loves to chase toy mice or guard the window for any birds that come too close. Since she's not a kitten anymore, she's already got great litter box and scratching post manners. She's polite with guests and kids, although she never lets you forget to feed her canned food! Katie is a sweet, people-oriented kitty who has been overlooked many times simply because of her age. She loves to sit next to you on the couch to be petted or brushed, and she's always waiting by the door for you when you come home. She's a striking dilute calico, with wonderfully soft fur and a beautiful head reminiscent of a Siamese. Being an older, wiser kitty, Katie was so appreciative to come to her foster home and be out of a cage that she grew more and more affectionate as time went by. She even learned to tolerate the dog next door (though he knows who's boss!) and her fellow foster kitty, even though everyone always said she hated other cats. She can't wait to get into a forever home and have her own family to love. |

You must promise to keep the cat indoors (unless stated otherwise), take good care of the cat's physical and emotional needs, NOT declaw it, and give it a lifetime home. If you are not serious about keeping a cat for 15-20 years, please do not apply.

We are an all-volunteer organization. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact us. Children age 13 and over are welcome. We are in need of people to help in the following areas:
Cat Care:
Cleaning and caring for our cats in the Adoption Center at PetsMart in Fair Lakes,
cleaning cages and caring for cats, including giving medication at our quarantine,
located at foster's home in Greenbriar, Cat Care in some of our Foster Homes. Many
foster homes care for many cats and need some help, currently we have a home in
Centerville that has asked for help.
Adoptions:
Adoption Assistants help set-up and tear down at adoption fairs, keep an eye on cats
at fairs, makes sure only Fancy Cats reps take cats/kittens from cages. Does some
prescreening of applicants, informing potential adopters of Fancy Cats policies.
Adoption Coordinators are authorized by Fancy Cats to release cats to their new
owners, they go over and approve/deny applications, working with potential adopters
to help find best match, answer questions, and sign all Fancy Cats paperwork.
Foster Homes:
We very much need foster homes, long and short term to care for our cats and
transport them to and from adoption fairs. Fancy Cats assumes vet costs, foster
homes, provide food and litter. Some cats in the Adoption Center need short term
breaks from the stress of the center, homes are also needed to give a much needed
vacation for stressed out or tired cats.
Miscellaneous:
We also need volunteers who are willing to work on Fundraising, Recruitment,
Internal/External Outreach and Education, and Marketing. These Teams are new to us
as a main focus, and we are open to hearing proposals, ideas on all these topics.
Other needs include follow-up phone calls, vet transports, adoption fair transports,
vet reference checks, and event planning assistance.

Fancy Cats works to end needless euthanasia by providing a safety net for cats that have been abandoned. We rescue friendly strays, cats on "death row" at local shelters, and assist other rescue groups and personnel in emergency situations. We take owner release cats as space permits with all medical work done (including sterilization, FeLV/FIV test, and rabies and distemper shots that are current). We also require a tax dedeuctible donation of our choosing depending on the cats age and general health. We take strays as space permits. We DO NOT accept feral (wild) cats.
