Who We Are
Founded in 1997, Cat Rescue, Inc. has been finding great homes for some great cats.
In Hampton Roads, tens of thousands of companion animals are euthanized in animal shelters each year and we think there has to be a better way.
That's why we exist.
Our group has no paid staff, but our members have been able to make the world of difference to hundreds of cats each year as well as assisting other animal shelters and rescue groups all over the Hampton Roads area.
Cat Rescue, Inc. tests all
cats and kittens for FELV/FIV. These animals receive their first distemper
shots & deworming, if they are at least 16 weeks old they receive
their rabies vaccination. If required, they are also treated for ear
mites, fleas and other medical conditions. Cats over 6 months are
spayed/neutered before they are adopted to prevent it from contributing to
the pet overpopulation crisis. A cat does not need to
have at least one litter.
If a potential home already has cats, then we ask that the existing cats meet same medical requirements.
Adopting a CRI Cat
The majority of the cats in our care come from municipal
animal control shelters. These animals are taken into our custody as space
in our foster homes become available. We provide them with
vaccinations, treat them for ear mites and fleas (if present) and have
them spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
We think our cats are
the best, but encourage anyone thinking of welcoming a new pet into their
home to adopt from a shelter or rescue group such as ours. Commercial and
"backyard" animal breeders are contributing to the animal overpopulation
problem that has been estimated to cost the United States over one billion
dollars each year to deal with. When you adopt, you save not only money
but an animals life as well.
Please consider
your current living situation and make sure you take your future plans into
account before you adopt a pet. Cat Rescue, Inc. will be happy to adopt
a cat into a great home, but we want all of our cats to have a forever home.
Pets should never be adopted on a whim and we don't advise that pets be adopted
as a gift for anyone.
Owner Surrenders
As a home-based animal rescue group, Cat Rescue, Inc does not accept cats that owners wish to surrender unless the cat was adopted from Cat Rescue, Inc.
However, if you need to find a home for a cat owned by you Cat Rescue, Inc. is willing to help you.
We can provide you with a "courtesy listing" on our PetFinder page to promote your pet, if your cat is up-to-date on all of it's required vaccinations and spayed/neutered we would be happy to have you join us at PETSMART during our Saturday adoption events
and help guide you through adopting your pet to a new owner.
Our motto is, "A Community Approach to Helping Homeless Cats". We are willing to help you with stray and feral cats by showing you the best way to handle the problem and directing you to
low-cost resources for vaccinations and spay/neuter services.
If you are unwilling to participate, we cannot assist you.
