Angel is not just another pretty face (although she DOES have a pretty face!), this girl is SWEET! She is possibly a mix between a cocker spaniel and a sheltie. She gets along with everyone, adults, children & dogs alike! She has a gorgeous silky black medium haired coat and a very pleasing attitude. This would make the ideal companion for any household, and at under 30lbs, she's the perfect size!!! She doesn't pull on a leash, and is a quick learner. So calm and well mannered . . .don't miss out on this girl, great dogs like this don't come around often!! (look at her profile to see more photos) You can meet Angel at PetSmart on Midlothian on Saturday or email the shelter for more information!

We are raising funds for our new shelter, scheduled to open in early 2008. Construction is almost complete and we need your help with furnishings, supplies, and volunteers. We also accept donations for our Thrift Store in Keysville, Tail Waggers. Thrift Store proceeds go to the shelter, too. Our next goal to achieve is equipment for a spay/neuter clinic onsite!
4/27/08: Our First Annual Open House!! Coming soon.. check back for details.
10/27/07: Our Dedication Ceremony on Sunday was a great success! Nearly 200 sponsors, volunteers, donors and friends visited and were on hand for the dedication of the three buildings. The main building will open in early 2008.
Please help us finish our new shelter and install a much-needed spay/neuter clinic! Donations can be sent to Southside SPCA, P.O. Box 66, Meherrin, VA 23954.
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our animal shelter because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
Who We Are
Southside SPCA is a no-kill, non-profit animal shelter in south central Virginia, in operation since 1975, serving 12 rural counties , and run entirely on donations. We are located 60 miles west of Richmond. We provide love, humane care and shelter for abandoned animals and strive to provide them with loving, responsible homes. We do not use any extreme temperament tests, nor do we believe in euthanasia as a means to control the pet overpopulation problem. Our dogs are carefully evaluated, if there are any behavioral problems they are addressed prior to adoption.
Matching dogs/cats and families that are compatible is our priority. We promote spay/neuter programs and do our best to educate the public about this ever-present problem. No animal leaves our shelter's system unaltered. Please spay and neuter your pets. There are many programs that provide low cost spay/neuter. This is the only way to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable pets.
