A.D.O.P.T. Program
We are excited to introduce our newest solution to unwanted pets...The A.D.O.P.T. program (adult dogs offered professional training)! This program takes our senior or otherwise difficult to adopt dogs and places them in training for two weeks to make them more adoptable. They are crate trained, taught basic house manners and are started on obedience training. This program is one of our most successful...BUT, we need fosters to house these dogs while they wait for their forever homes. Placing these dogs back in the shelter where their training is not continued defeats the purpose.

NEWS
We're on FACEBOOK...come join our group "Friends of Southside SPCA" and share stories, see photos and learn about upcoming events!!
Our shelter construction is finally complete and we need your help with furnishings, supplies, and volunteers. Southside SPCA is funded entirely by caring individuals like yourself and receives no support from State agencies, Federal agencies, or national rescue organizations. Your donations of cash or dog/cat food are gratefully accepted. We also accept donations for our Thrift Store in Keysville, Tail Waggers. Thrift Store proceeds go to the shelter to help the animals. Our next goal to achieve is equipment for a spay/neuter clinic onsite!
DEDICATE A BRICK AT OUR NEW SHELTER!
Dedications may be in honor of, or in memory of, friends or loved ones. Bricks may have up to 48 characters (including spaces and punctuation, 3 lines of max 16 characters). What better way to leave a lasting tribute!
Please add a brick or two (or more!) to the fascade of the shelter! Stop by our Open House October 19th and see the bricks! A $250.00 donation will add a brick to the fascade of Heidi's House, the Puppy Building or The Otter Cove Dog Building.
Please help us finish our new shelter and install a much-needed spay/neuter clinic! Donations can be sent to Southside SPCA, P.O. Box 66, Meherrin, VA 23954.
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our animal shelter because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
WHO WE ARE
Southside SPCA is a no-kill, non-profit animal shelter in south central Virginia, in operation since 1975, serving 12 rural counties , and run entirely on donations. We are located 60 miles west of Richmond. We provide love, humane care and shelter for abandoned animals and strive to provide them with loving, responsible homes. We do not use any extreme temperament tests, nor do we believe in euthanasia as a means to control the pet overpopulation problem. Our dogs are carefully evaluated, if there are any behavioral problems they are addressed prior to adoption.
Matching dogs/cats and families that are compatible is our priority. We promote spay/neuter programs and do our best to educate the public about this ever-present problem. No animal leaves our shelter's system unaltered. Please spay and neuter your pets. There are many programs that provide low cost spay/neuter. This is the only way to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable pets.
ADOPTING A FRIEND
