WELCOME to the Oldies But Goodies (OBG) Cocker Rescue site on Petfinder! We are very pleased to have you stop by and take a look at all the wonderful cockers and cocker mixes we have for adoption.
Our organization was formed because there was a lack of rescue organizations that would take older cockers in and find new homes for them. It is so sad to see a dog given a death sentence just because of his/her age. Once we opened our doors we not only were asked to accept older dogs, but also dogs of ALL ages. Thus the name of Oldies But Goodies Cocker Rescue is not completely accurate. Young pups to seniors find a safe haven at OBG until a new permanent home can be found.
With the help of many volunteers OBG saves over three hundred dogs each year. If you would like to help in any way please e-mail us or call 703-533-2373. We are always in need of volunteers to foster, transport dogs from shelters or to the vet, groom, or participate in adoption shows. Please consider volunteering.
CURRENT ADOPTION FEES: Each and every cocker we take in is given a health check, brought up-to-date on shots, and is neutered or spayed before ever being offered for adoption. We also work with these dogs in an attempt to socialize them so that they will trust humans. For some of these dogs, it is a long and arduous task. Sometimes this takes weeks, sometimes it takes months and even years before an animal can be expected to trust human society again. During this period, OBG has to pay for the dog's food, medicine and general upkeep. For this reason, we ask for a $350 adoption fee for each dog that we place. If you adopt a second dog the fee is $250.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE: All prospective adopters are asked to complete an adoption questionnaire and allow us to visit their homes to perform a home check. We also ask for the name and phone number of the veterinarian that has cared for any other pets you currently own, or have owned in the past. We do this to ensure that our charges are going to a good home. Please be aware that Oldies But Goodies does not adopt the dogs to homes with children under the age of 8 years.
TO ALL PROSPECTIVE ADOPTERS: Oldies But Goodies Cocker Rescue, Inc. is dedicated to the relief of suffering of cocker spaniels and cocker mixes in the metropolitan DC/VA/MD area. Because of human neglect, abuse or simple indifference, we find new homes for dogs that need to mend broken spirits, broken hearts and sometimes even broken bones. While every attempt is made to place a dog in an appropriate home, many times we often do not know the environment the dog came from, nor do we know his/her history. From experience we do know how they respond to love, care, food and gentle direction. Please remember that some of these animals have endured months and even years of abuse. Some have simply been thrown away like trash. And yet, others found themselves in situations simply where their beloved masters can no longer physically or financially care for them and these dogs are grieving for them. When you adopt a rescued pet, then comes another transition and a period of adjustment. Patience and commitment are the hallmarks needed to bring out the best in your new rescued pet. Our dedicated staff of volunteers are always available to assist you with any adjustment problems. Please contact us at any time.
Volunteer with Oldies But Goodies! We desperately need foster volunteers who can care for a dog for a short period of time before adoption. We also welcome helpers to staff our adoption shows at northern Virginia and Maryland PetSmarts, Petcos, and other locations three Saturdays (or more!) each month.
We also gratefully accept cash donations, and donations of new or "gently used" leashes, dog collars, toys, crates, dog food and treats.
