South Salt Lake Animal Services
Pet of the Month
South Salt Lake/Holladay Animal Services is now accepting applications for VOLUNTEERS who want to make a difference! We are looking for caring people to help us take care of the animals by cleaning, feeding, walking, grooming, socializing, temperment testing, photographing, etc. We are a small shelter with a small staff so any extra help makes a great deal of difference to the shelter animals. They deserve to be spoiled! Please call us at the shelter for more info (801)887-7217 or to get an application!
Who We AreWe are South Salt Lake and Holladay City Animal Services, a division of the South Salt Lake City Police Department. We operate with three Animal Services Officers to provide a variety of animal related services and animal ordinance enforcement for the cities of South Salt Lake and Holladay. Our mission includes the operation of a small to medium sized animal shelter where we impound stray, injured, and abandoned animals for their safety and welfare and public safety. Animals that are not claimed by their owners within 5 days are made available for adoption. Census permitting, we will keep adoptable animals as long as possible while coordinating with state wide rescue organizations to help the animals find good homes. We do euthanize animals that are deemed unadoptable because of serious injury, terminal illness, or excessive aggression. It could therefore be said that we are a "Low Kill" shelter.
Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog to sleep in comfort, please click here.
Adopting a friend
We normally have 15 to 30 dogs and cats available for adoption. Most of these animals are unclaimed strays that have been impounded or brought in by concerned citizens. Some are turned over by owners who can no longer keep their animals. Most animals are adults at least a year old, but we do receive kittens, puppies, and other types of animals. If the adopted animal was not spayed or neutered prior to entering our shelter, we will have the surgery performed following the adoption. The new owner will pick up their new pet at the veteriarian's office normally within 24 hours. Our adoption fees are $63.00 for cats and $95.00 for dogs. This price includes a microchip. Animals that are already spayed or neutered are $23 for cats and $33 for dogs, which also includes a microchip.
Rabies vaccination for dogs and cats is the adoptor's responsibility and must be done within 14 days of the adoption. We also implant AVID microchips at a cost of $15.00 per microchip. We can be reached by phone Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at (801) 887-7217 or you may fax inquiries to (801) 886--0762.
