Our Featured Pet...

Tina is just a baby! She came to us when her previous owner's dog had a litter of puppies, and when she took them in for a check up she found out Tina has luxating patellas, and couldn't afford to have them repaired, so she signed Tina over to us to care for. We have since found out that it's more serious then that, Tina's bones in one rear leg are actually bowed, which is what caused that patella to luxate so bad in that leg. The vet is estimating surgery will run about $3000 at least, not counting post surgical exams, x-rays, or physical therapy, so we could easily be looking at $4000 - $5000 for her. We deseperatly need help raising the money to care for her, we can't do the surgery until she's 6-7 months and her bones are mostly grown and more solid. If you can help, please contact us!!! To view updates on her, view her petfinder page under our adoptable pet listing.

News

With the cold weather upon us, we could really use some Large, Extra Large, or Giant crates(Plastic or wire), Exercise Pens, doggy litter boxes, wood stove pellets(makes great litter for the dogs) or doggy litter, house training pads, coats, sweaters, blankets(especially fleece), dog beds, toys, dishes, food (We feed Canidae, Innova EVO, Nature's Variety Raw Instinct to our adults along with raw chicken necks) We can also use canned food that we use on our older ones, puppies, and sick ones so they'll eat more. Again, we prefer Canidae or other holistic brands, but we're not as picky on the canned foods, and will use any brand. We can also use Petsmart, Petco, Walmart, and other gift cards to use to purchase the supplies we need to keep our rescues happy!!!!!

*UPDATE* We now have another very special needs IG in our care. Annie came in on Feb 22, 2007. She's got some serious medical problems. The original vet the examined her found that she had a heart murmer, and blood work showed kidney disease, early signs of liver disease(but with proper nutrition, we believe that's reversable), and a very low white blood cell count. Further testing has shown that Annie is suffering from a hereditary blood clotting disorder known as Von Willebrands Disease. We will do everything we can to provide Annie with the best quality of life, but in the long run this disease WILL claim her life. Annie is no longer available for adoption, but you can see her picture on the adoptable pet list. She will remain here at Iggy Palace for the rest of her days. Please keep Annie in your thoughts and prayers, and maybe we'll get the miracle we're hoping for, and she'll have a few happy years before she leaves for the rainbow bridge.

Who We Are

We are a sighthound rescue that started taking in dogs in November of 2005. We officially founded our rescue in August of 2006. We focus mainly on getting Italian Greyhounds out of puppy mills and back yard breeders, but we will help find good homes for any sight hound, including but not limited to whippets, salukis, borzoi, great danes, greyhounds, and most other sight hound, and when we have the room we will take in other breeds. If you have a Italian Greyhound or Sight hound that you need help finding a new home for, or are looking for a sight hound, please contact us and if we don't have anything available we can either put you on our waiting list or send you to another rescue that may have what you're looking for.

We are always willing to talk with people who are wanting and Italian Greyhound or other sight hound and teach them about these wonderful dogs, and help them find the right dog for them if they qualify. We also work to educate the public, and are always willing to try to help out in any way we can to try to make things work and keep these dogs in their homes instead of having to rehome them. If you need some help with your IG or other small dog or sight hound, please contact us, we're always happy to help!!!

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, have their teeth cleaned if needed, microchipped, UTD on shots, heart worm tested and started on prevention, and had any other medical problems they may have treated by our vet and been given a clean bill of health prior to placement. We also send our dogs home with a martingale collar and 4' leash. Our adoption fees are normally as follows.
Puppies under 6 months - $400 - $500
Puppies 6 months to a year - $350 - $400
Adult dogs - $300 - $350
Special needs/seniors - Adoption fees start at $250, but will vary based on age and/or the circumstances, those that will need continued vet will be less then $250. We also offer reduced adoption fees when adopting more then 1 IG at the same time. Our adoption fees are higher on our puppies because they are easy to place, and we use the excess to be able to afford the care for our special needs cases where vet bills on an individual dog often exceed $1000. We put an average of at least $300 a piece into each and every dog that comes into rescue between dentals, shots, heartworm testing, blood work, spay/neuter, microchipping, and everything else they need while in our care, and often exceed this limit, especially on older dogs!!!

We also now offer Premier collars and leashes to the public and adopters. A set with a tag collar, martingale collar, and your choice of a 4' or a 6' leash can be purchased for $20. We also offer this products individually, as well as harnesses, break away collars, Gentle Leaders, car restraints, coats, beds, and other supplies. We also resently joined with a company that supplies us with quality crates and exercise pens, and we're offering those to the public as well cheaper then you can get them at Petsmart or Petco, we sell them in sizes from 24" long to the huge 48" long, and exercise pens in 24", 36", or 48" heights. For more information, call or e-mail us.
WE ARE CURRENTLY HAVING SOME TROUBLE WITH OUR E-MAIL SERVER, IF WE DON'T RESPOND WITHIN 24 HRS, PLEASE E-MAIL US AGAIN!!!!!!

How to help out

Donate a BedWe use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.
We can also use blankets, cordless heating pads(IGs are wimps in the winters, we like to use cordless heating pads that you warm in the microwave in thier crates just for thier own comfort), Petsmart or Petco gift cards, collars and leashes, and crates, especially wire crates!

Come Visit Us!

All of our adoptable pets are in foster homes, we don't have a physical shelter. We believe it's important for our rescued pets to be in a home and learn to be part of a family so when an adoptive family comes along the transition is as easy as possible for everyone involved. Please be patient with us if the dog you're interested in is being fostered in an outside foster home, it may take a few days to a week to arrange everyone's schedules so you can meet the dog.
