Introducing...
Onyx!

Shilo

Howdy, Let me introduce myself. My name is Onyx and I am approximately three years old and a real loverboy. I love to play with other dogs but dont really like the whole cat thing. I am completely house broken and I am also crate trained. I have been known to walk sneak out with the toddler and follow her around the block and make sure she stays out of danger, so im a great babysitter also! They say I have very unique markings and ladies in the neighborhood can't keep their eyes off of me. I'm a real ladies man!!!!! HUBA-HUBA, if you know what I mean. If your looking for a fellow to take long walks with, snuggle and watch a good movie with or just sit by a warm fire, I am your man. Contact me by calling my gal Marci at 435-830-4049. With Love, Onyx XOXOXOXO

Who We Are and What We Love to Do...

Tooele Animal Outreach is a Tooele County-based rescue group that routinely rescues dogs and cats from local shelters into our growing foster program, where the animals stay until they are adopted into permanent, loving homes.

We operate strictly on adoption fees and generous donations from caring people like you. The money we get is used to benefit dogs and cats in our program in many ways. It helps us buy pet food and necessary pet care supplies, but more importantly, it allows us to pay for medical care for the animals we're trying to save. Here's an example...

Deek, a handsome, sweet black labrador retriever, came in to the Grantsville Animal Shelter in October as a stray. Sadly, his owners never called to find him, which turned out to be a HUGE blessing for Deek. After a few days in the shelter, we noticed that Deek had some raw flesh, um, "back there," and it was obvious that he was very uncomfortable. We rushed him into our group's veterinarian (Thanks, Dr. Gowans and crew!), where the doc determined that Deek's former owners had tried to castrate him by cinching a rubber band around his testicles. POOR DEEK! Can you imagine how much this must have hurt? Anyway, Dr. Gowans performed an immediate neuter on Deek, but because of the infection that had set in, Deek required extra procedures and was fitted with a temporary drain tube to ease out the remaining infection.

Here's the good news! Deek recovered in one of our foster homes and has been adopted into his forever family, where he is flourishing with his playmate. Donations from people like you helped us pay for Deek's surgery, which was around $300. Every little bit helps, so if you're considering making a donation to help other dogs like Deek, rest assured that your donation--no matter how big or small--will be used with care to benefit animals in need.

By the way, you can also visit the Grantsville City Animal Shelter's site or the Tooele City Animal Shelter's site for more adoptable animals in Tooele County. You can also call the Tooele County shelter at 435-882-1051, or the Stockton City shelter at 435-882-3877.

Winter Tips for Pets When the weather outside turns cold and snowy, Arvada Animal Management reminds you to think about your pet's safety and recommends the following guidelines to protect your companion animal: Keep your cats inside. Outdoor cats can freeze, become lost or stolen, injured or killed. During the winter, outdoor cats sometimes choose to sleep under the hoods of cars where it is warmer. Before starting your car you should bang loudly on the hood and wait a few seconds to give the cat a chance to escape. Never let your dog off the leash on snow or ice, especially during a snowstorm. Dogs frequently lose their scent in snow and ice and can easily become lost. More dogs are lost in the winter than any other season, so make sure they always wear I.D. tags. Thoroughly wipe off your dog's legs and stomach when they come in out of the sleet, snow or ice. Salt, antifreeze or other chemicals could hurt your dog if ingested while licking their paws. If you have a shorthaired breed, consider getting a warm coat or sweater with a high collar or turtleneck for your dog. Look for one that covers the dog from the base of the tail on top to the belly underneath. While this may seem like a luxury, it is a necessity for many. Never leave your dog or cat alone in a car during the cold weather. A car can act as a refrigerator in the winter, holding in the cold. Your companion animal could freeze to death. Cold weather sensitivities: if your dog is sensitive to the cold due to age, illness or breed type, take them outdoors only long enough to relieve themselves. House breaking puppies during the winter: puppies do not tolerate the cold as well as adult dogs and may be difficult to housebreak during the winter. Winter feeding: if your dog spends a lot of time engaged in outdoor activities, increase their supply of food, particularly protein, to keep their fur thick and healthy. Pet bedding: make sure your companion animal has a warm place to sleep and is far away from drafts and off the floor. You should consider a dog or cat bed or basket with a warm blanket or pillow in it. Antifreeze, even in very tiny doses is a lethal poison for dogs and cats. Unfortunately, because of its sweet taste, animals are attracted to it. Be sure to thoroughly clean up any spills from your vehicle. To prevent accidental poisoning; more and more people are using animal friendly products that contain propylene glycol rather than traditional products containing ethylene glycol. Call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (1-888-4ANI-HELP) if you suspect your animal has been poisoned. Related Keywords"

Anytime is the perfect time to consider opening your home and your heart to a new best friend, but why not consider it, just because it's Summertime, and because you're feeling the need to do something WONDERFUL for someone who needs it so badly?! Give a homeless dog or cat (or maybe even two!) a new "leash" on life. Shelter animals have proven time and time again to be the very best pets. They're intelligent little furry people who KNOW when they've been rescued, and they'll reward you with unconditional love beyond your wildest imaginations. Sure... some of them need some extra love, training and TLC. Fortunately, though, that's usually ALL they need (besides food and shelter, of course) to be the best friend you've ever had.

Even if you're not ready for the commitment required to adopt a new pet, please support the homeless pets in your area in other ways. Donate to your favorite animal charity, or volunteer at your local animal shelter. A little bit goes a long way, so please find it in your heart to donate the whole year through. You can find your local shelter by visiting www.hsus.org.

Donations are ALWAYS welcome!

Items needed: DRY DOG FOOD, cat food, kitty litter, litter pans, dog and cat toys, leashes, collars (all sizes), dog and cat treats, bowls, grooming equipment, old kennels, dog houses and anything else that might help a homeless dog or cat be more comfortable. Gently used items, as well as new items, and partially used bags of food will gladly be accepted.

Here's a great and super easy way to help, from where you're sitting right now! CLICK HERE and donate today!...
