Sad times

Thing are getting pretty crazy with the bad economy and the number of peorple having to give up their pets due to financial difficulties. It must be a pretty hard decision to give up a beloved pet because the owner cannot afford to keep them they way they need to be kept...that shows love for the animal to make sure it goes to a good home or shelter instead of letting it suffer.

Update January 2010
We have a number of native water turtles and box turtles that we are overwintering due to the early spell of cold weather making it impossible to release them back into the wild.

We currently have over 50 water turtles housed in stock tanks inside the house. They will all be released back into the wild in the summer after aclimating in backyard ponds in the spring. That means we need turtle food. We are going through a half a cup of floating turtles sticks a day...and we have four more months until they go outside to start on native food training. We are also looking for unwanted stock tanks to make sure the turtles have more room over the winter.

We have a number of turtles in bad shape that are on medicine to boost their immune systems...some hit by cars, metabolic bone disease or severe respiratory infections.

We alaso have a number of snakes that are thin and one that is simply emaciated but very excited to eat...that' a relief.

We are looking for volunteers willing to put in an hour or two a week to help at the private residence where the animals are house. If you like reptiles and want to learn about reptiles while helping them, please email us for information.

Who We Are
We are a small rescue group the cares for the health and welfare of all animals. We work with an animal until it is ready for adoption.

Our animals are used in public and private school education programs, Girl and Boy Scout programs, and public events (Earth Days, Pioneer Days, etc). Some are permanently placed in public school classrooms.

We are a no-kill rescue group

We are not a business and exist only on donations and adoption fees to keep the animals in food, vet care, heating/lighting, misc supplies. All donations welcome. Contact Gina by email at gdisteldorf@comcast.net for volunteer or donation opportunities.

We do not ship our animals. We like people to visit our shelter and see how the animals are housed and watch their behavior in a place they feel comfortable with. We want you to handle the animal to see if you are a match in personalities. Also, it is our opinion that shipping stresses the animals out.

Animals we take in are:
Hedgehogs
Insects and tarantulas
Amphibians (frogs, toads, newts, salamanders)
Reptiles (turtles, lizards, snakes - non-venemous)
