News

Our cats are now in their new Habitat! We are very excited that we have a quiet place where prospective adopters can visit with the cats without phones ringing, dogs barking etc. Cats are thrilled too!

We have quite a selection of cats and kittens waiting for their Forever homes. Please come visit! Since the cats are being housed separately from the main building, VOLUNTEERS are especially needed to spend time at the Habitat socializing , grooming and playing with the cats and kittens, and visiting with potential families for them.

Pet of the Week

Our pet of the week introduces himself or herself...
In the Sunday and Wednesday Times Record News. We also usually have one or two of our cats that are available for adoption at the Wichita Falls Petco on Kemp Blvd and some more cats at the new Petsmart. Check the local Noon news on Channel 3 on Tuesdays and Fridays, and on Channel 6 on Thursdays for other adoptable pets. Thanks to the Times Record News, Petco, KFDX , KAUZ and Time Warner Cable for helping showcase our pets! A special thanks goes to Wilson Office Supply for their help in getting the word out about our homeless pets.

The pet list is only a partial listing of the pets we have available for adoption at any given time. Please contact the shelter directly if you are searching for a particular breed. We do our best to keep the list updated, and to provide photos, but that's not always possible. If you are curious about a pet you find on this site, by all means, please come visit. You just might fall in love! WE DO NOT SHIP!

Shelters all over the country continue to be inundated with unplanned litters. Irresponsible owners turn in puppies and kittens by the hundreds to our shelter alone. Multiply that by the hundreds of shelters across the country and the loss of life is enormous. PLEASE spay and neuter your pets. There are not enough homes for all of them! Please don't continue to add to the pet overpopulation problem by allowing your pets to breed. Those FREE puppies and kittens that people find so easy to give away often end up at shelters eventually, or their offspring do. Our shelter is forced to euthanize pets every day due to the volume of discarded pets we receive. You are not doing your pet a favor by "allowing" her to have a litter. And you are certainly not doing your children a favor by letting them witness the "miracle of birth"! This shelter, and all shelters all over the US are overwhelmed with homeless animals.

PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING AN ADULT PET. WE ARE OVERRUN WITH ADULT ANIMALS TURNED IN MAINLY BECAUSE THEIR OWNERS ARE MOVING. WE HAVE RECEIVED A LARGE NUMBER OF PETS FROM SAFB DUE TO THE RECENT DEPLOYMENTS. ADULT ANIMALS ARE VERY GRATEFUL FOR A NEW HOME, AND THERE IS NO TRUTH TO THE RUMOR THAT YOU NEED A "BABY" PET IN ORDER TO BOND.

These adult pets are often housetrained, and have gotten past the puppy chewing stage and the curtain climbing kitten stage. But because they are adults, no one wants them. The majority of the adult animals that are turned in to us are euthanized due to lack of room, and the publics desire for baby animals, that they relinquish later because they act like puppies! Because people want pups and kittens, our adoptions drop off drastically during Spring and Summer, the "free" puppy and kitten seasons. It's a sad waste of life. Our pets are all spayed/neutered, current on shots, heartworm and Feleuk tested negative, wormed and microchipped. Adoption fees are $105 for dogs and $90 for cats. If you are a responsible owner, the same medical treatment for your "free" pup or kitten would cost much more!

Who We Are

Adopting a friend

Adoption fees are: $105.00 for dogs, and $90.00 for cats. This includes the spay/neuter, microchip, Canine parvo/distemper and Rabies shots, feline RCP shot and Rabies shot, the animals are wormed, dogs tested for Heartworms, and the cats tested for Feline Leukemia, ears checked for earmites. Our shelter DOES NOT ship out of state. Apartment adoptions must comply with landlord rules. A physical inspection of the premises may take place but only if we have a reason to (ex. fence jumpers). Also, if you are in the Wichita Falls city limit, your new companion comes with their city tag. Cats are adopted out as strictly indoor pets.
